Word traveled fast on a small, Intrepid class starship. Guests noticed the wanton disobedience of the children and it seemed like everyone on the ship had heard. Acheson stood outside the Mess Hall and tugged at his uniform. These kids had tried to play with Lieutenant Wellington, but she was a Counselor. Her job was to be cordial, nice, and restrained and they must have tried to exploit it. Nathan was former ODA and wasn't going to be so manipulated. So he thought.
He entered the room and looked to the children, who had at this point cleaned up and finished eating.
He looked toward the end table, where a group of older children sat. "You 10, come over here."
They slowly got up and walked toward him, standing in a jumble in front. "We're going to the holodeck." The kids nodded and began to walk out. He noticed a small child come forward from the little children's table and spoke to him: "Can I go to the Howodeck?"
He found himself having a hard time answered: "I'm sorry, little boy. Maybe later, ok." His heart practically melt seeing the poor child frown.
"Ok."
With the elder children, they walked to the holodeck.

Acheson stood in front of the 10 older children and had them stand in formation. "Ok, I am Captain Acheson, Chief Tactical Officer of this ship. Does anyone here know of the Battle of Vermailla?"
The kids shook their head and began talking to each other:
"Quiet!"
The talking reduced to a barely audible whisper, which he heard with decent accuracy. A young man was talking to a girl beside him and she began giggling: "That means you!"
The kid scoffed: "No it doesn't. I'm not Starfleet. I'm not part of your silly little game."
Acheson felt like his head was going to explode: "Excuse me? Little game?"
"Yea, Starfleet. My brother told me that Starfleet is simply an aggressive, colonial entity bent on celestial domination."
He glared at the kid: "Young man, I appreciate your opinion, but that is just it ... an opinion. Now you are ruining everyone's fun. So stand there, or you can sit with the little children back in the Mess Hall."
He nodded and gave a dirty look before quieting down.
"Does anyone know of the Battle of Vermilla, I said?" he asked, to the crowd. Nothing.
"150 years ago, a Romulan probing team tried to take Vermilla, a Federation planet. They launched a massive offensive, which pushed back the Federation's forces, until the Federation fleet flanked them and forced their surrender. The ships were returned to Romulus in exchange for diplomatic concessions. However, during the battle, various fighters engaged in the ionosphere of Vermillia. So your mission, is to engage the Romulan forces in the sky and defeat them, using the weapons of the era. You'll have pulse phasers and photon torpedos, although the aiming is rather primitive.
The same young man called out: "I don't want to be Federation."
Acheson grinned: "Fine. You're Romulan. Computer, Activate program Acheson 1443, and replace one simulator with a Romulan equivalent, same era."
"I want to fly a modern Romulan ship."
He turned back: "I think one of the kids in the other room wants to play a doll simulation. Would you like to join him?"
"Ok, Ok."
The Children got into the Simulators, which existed in a circle in the room. The program activated and each was placed in their own individual simulation.
Acheson walked back and forth and continued inspecting as they enjoyed their amusement.
