-= Sickbay - Rangi's office =-
Rangi nodded and wished she hadnt spoken out of turn."So...you 'see'
these people...rather than dream about it.....when did you first experience
that?"
Gaalen held back an annoyed reaction. He felt like he was not really being
listened to. He took, yet another deep breath. "As I said earlier on, I first
saw, who I really believe to be Ph'ell back on Kinsi. Then, before the winter
ball on the holodeck."
{Kinsi....right} Rangi met the Andorians gaze."One moment." she said and
quickly tapped buttons on her computer terminal. She accessed Gaalens recent
medical history and read her way through the brief report." I see Dr Carpenter
examined you on your return to Chimera " she said as she scrolled down the
screen "It says nothing of hallucinations her." Rangi looked up. remeeting the
officers eyes "Did you tell her about it?"
"No I did not. I really thought it was her, and I guess the fact that I have
not seen andorians before, it vould have been anyone looking like her, but it
was too much of a resemblance. Besides, When we where on Kinsi, I did suffer
from obvious hallucinations. At the time, I also did not know I was affected,
what if I was affected after that event."
He noticed the fact that he agreed she was not an actual hallucination. But
she could not be alive either. He had to agree that he was already affected
when he stepped on the station.
"No, I guess she really was an hallucination afterall. I just did not want
to admit it at the time, hoping she could be alive."
Rangi looked back at the screen. After a moment she spoke again.
"Well...about 80% of people..including myself...who were exposed to the pollen,
experienced some form of hallucination. What bothers me though is that you say
you're still 'seeing' your wife...your friends...so in fact the halucinations
are increasing and not decreasing as we would expect."
She switched off the screen."You had the required amount of antidote...as
did we all...but." She paused and considered her words. "The nightmares you
have?... what are they?"
"I could not tell you really. I don't recall nightmares or dreams. I know
they are nightmares cause you don't wake up in a fit of sweat from good dreams.
The only one I recall is the moment of her death. The worst moment of my life,
if you want to know." He shifted in his seat, wiping the face of his hands on
his pants.
"Yes." was the only word Rangi replied. She siad it quietly and it held
understanding for his sorrow at the loss of his wife."I can give you something
to help you sleep peacefully. " she said when a few seconds had passed.
"That though wont explain away the hallucinations. I'd like to do a full
physical exam...just to be sure...but i dont think i'll find anything." She sat
back in her chair and seemed to ponder on something for a long time.
"Lieutenant?..this may seem a strange question...but have you noticed any
emotional changes in yourself?...apart from the obvious ones caused by seeing
your wife and friends.Have you noticed any heightened..say...feelings of uncer
uncertainty...distrust...anything like that?"
"None that I could recall." He replied after a moment of thinking. "Just
these hallucinations of my quartet and family." He wanted to add the strange
messages he'd received but he opted to work on the side of caution for now.
"Tell me what do we do about these hallucinations? Do I have to show up to the
counselor's office?" He asked, hoping that he would not be ordered there.
"Not at the moment." Rangi replied carefully, looking at her desk as she
thought through the beginnings of an idea."No." she said looking up at him."I
think theres a possibility that you're not alone in this.I dont mean your
hallucinations." she added quickly." I mean ...theres a strong possibility that
we havent seen the last of the pollens effects. I'm pretty sure that at least
one other person isnt clear of it either. Please leave it with me Lt Idrani....I
want to do a little research into something."
"Euh, ok." He replied, kind of surprised at her change of attitude, suddenly
taking charge like it was nothing and she could find the answers all by
herself. "When do we meet again, to determine if I'm crazy or not?"
Rangi gave him a small smile. "Dont worry about that." She activated the
screen in front of her and tapped five or six commands." I'll give you a
sedative to help you sleep. its non addictive...doesnt have side effects...but
it will give you a dreamless night ok?" She looked up at him again."Nurse
Robinson will get it for you. As to when to come back?...give me a day or two.
I need to follow something."
He nodded. "I can live with that." He replied. "I guess we are all done here
for now?" He stood, wanting to get to work on something, even if it's wasn't
broken, just to get his mind off this meeting and the bad memories.
Rangi stood up. "Yes...I'll call you in a day or so. Please try not to worry
too much."
"I'll try doctor. Thanks for listening to me." He said as they both walked
to her office door. "I'll be waiting for the good news."
