Hawk was moving with swift determination across engineering to
complete a secondary EPS system shutdown check. The warp core would be
going down in less than a minute and he wanted to triple check that the
proper safeguards were enacted to prevent a ship wide surge and or purge
of plasma vent anywhere or everywhere within the ship. Split second
timing had to programmed and monitored with this type of shutdown and
maintenance otherwise multiple "ugly" things could and would take place.
Hawk was still recovering from his drink and dance exploits from
the ball and was using this as a diversion to his aching head. The one
thing that had become apparent to Hawk however was he must have
impressed a few of the female crew his first evening aboard. There
seemed to be a small group of female officers profoundly eager to assist
him in his duties. Every time he turned around there was a hand out
stretched with the tool he was turning around to retrieve. It was kind
of a nice change of pace from the conditions he went through while at SB
Bragg for ODA training. Several months of barking orders and the only
thought of females was some of the trainees around him, (but he like
them were often way to tired to consider casual interaction even on a
small scale)
Hawk pulled up from his inner thoughts and fan club when Ensign
Dallas nearly knocked him over into one of the EPS system taps just
after core shut down. "Wow, is everyone still drunk from the other
evening or is it just me." He laughed aloud not even offering an apology
as he went on with an armload of flux capacitors.
When he looked up and back across engineering a short distance
to were Dallas had come from he noted Ensign Alshain with a first aid
kit. Hawk made his way over to check on her.
By the time Hawk made it too her she was already back at work
and not really interested in small talk. She was polite, but just not
interested in talking at the moment. He understood why as the fact that
the ship was a sitting duck popped back into his head and he moved back
to his station to begin realignment of the mid-range phase adjuster.
Lt. Idrani met Hawk at the console and requested he check
another secondary system while they had the opportunity and moved on to
take over the main core manifold adjustment.
He smiled as the familiar feeling of home washed over him, this
is where he belonged, in the basement of a starship working out the bugs
and fixing leaks as it were. He thought that the adjustment from
security and oda activity back to his root vocation would be tough, but
it seemed to come back to him with ease and comfort.
