*** Sickbay * USS Chimera *** By eight a.m. the next morning, following Rangis conversation with Professor Griffin, the order had been given for all crew who had been in contact with the pollen to return to s/bay for further examination. There were one hundred and twelve in total. Rangi explained to the s/bay staff why every patient had to be seen again and stressed that all were to be questioned as to on going effects however small. Those that were found to have any remaining conditions were to be given appointments with the counselor as Professor Griffin had suggested. Athena too would have to be seen and Rangi had to admit to herself that she wasnt looking forward to seeing the counselor face to face. Appoinment times were sent out to all relevant crew but by 8.15, one of them was already sitting on the edge of biobed talking to Rangi. "Its about the frogs isnt it?" Corporal Burrows asked her question quietly and looked at Rangi with an expression of sadness "Thats why you've asked me to come down here?" "Frogs...?" Rangi asked and reached for a medpadd to access the young womans file. "Yes...they're still here." the corporal replied and looked around. Rangi glanced from the padd and looked too but saw only empty floor space. "You have frogs with you?" "Yes" the answer was accompanied by a weak smile "Nineteen of them" "Right..." Rangi began to read Maikais most recent addition to Corporal Angela Burrows medhistory. "There used to be thirty one of them" Angela explained "...but a few have found places to live on the ship..so they dont follow me now." "I see" Rangi replied, coming to the paragraph telling of the Corporals hallucinations. "I dont mind them" the young woman continued "...in fact I 'like' frogs...particularly this one." Rangi looked up from her study of the medpadd to see her patient looking at an empty space beside her on the biobed. She appeared to lift something up and smile at it before gently replacing it. She met Rangis eye and blushed slightly. "Its not real is it?" she asked and Rangi shook her head. "No." Angela looked down at the imaginery animal beside her. "I know that...but they 'seem' so real...and I like them alot...I know I should have said something when they didnt disappear...but when a few did, I thought they'd all go...but they havent." She paused and looked up at Rangi with a growing realization. "Ma'am...they dont interfere with my work..I wouldnt let that happen...they just follow me about...and croak a bit...particularly at night.." She looked again at the frog companion and then asked Rangi flatly: "I'm going crazy aren't I?" "No." Rangi replied immediately."No you're not..its an ongoing effect of the pollen." Setting the medpadd on the bed, Rangi leaned against it herself and explained what the professor had told her. " We werent aware that some people might experience...unusual things...for some time. Thats why we've ordered everyone back here to check exactly who is still under effect..." " What happens now?" Angela asked. "I''ll arrange for you to see the counselor." Rangi replied. "I'll be taken off duty?" "Yes " Rangi answered. " I'm sorry..but nineteen frogs...even quiet and docile ones..arent part of a security team." She waited for Angela to meet her eye and they exchanged a smile of understanding that though the comment was light, the event was serious. "I'm taking you off duty as of now." Rangi said, standing up straight and lifting the medpadd. "I'll arrange for the counselor to see you as soon as possible...there's no need for you to stay in your quarters...but duty is off for the time being ok?" Corporal Burrows nodded agreement and stood up too. "Thankyou ma'am" she said and turned back to the biobed but paused in the act of reaching out to the frog. She glanced at Rangi with a worried expression. "Sorry...was going to collect......" Rangis lips formed a kindly smile.
