<<OOC: Though real life is starting to allow me to return to normal, I
am not fully available to return to my Captain duties, There for with
some discussion, I will be writing for a character in the ODA for a
little while. Should be a refreshing change for me. Also, Andy? If I
Portrayed Andersen improperly, I apologize.>>
"A new beginning"
Gary materialized on the transporter pad. He had finally completed his
long journey from SB Bragg to his new duty assignment, the Chimera.
Dressed in his red starfleet uniform and sporting his Petty officer
rank, Gary adjusted the duffel bag slung over his shoulder and looked
around the transporter room, gathering his bearings. All he saw was the
transporter chief standing idly by. He would have thought that the ODA
commander would have at least greeted him, seeing how Gary was
specifically to be the Oda's Operations specialist. From his training,
Gary new that he was to be the CO's left hand, and hence the reason he
expected the ODA CO, Jack Walsh to greet him.
Gary Stepped down off the transporter pad and walked up tot he
transporter chief. With out saying a word, the Chief spoke out. "Welcome
aboard Petty officer. Will there be any other luggage beaming aboard?"
he said with a smile. Gary lifted the duffel up slightly and shook his
head. "No chief, Everything I need is in here. After all, Starfleet will
provide me with everything else I need." He smiled.
Gary looked over to the door to the transporter room and then back tot
he chief, "Was any one suppose to greet me?" he asked curious why not
even a single enlisted man form the oda had come to show him the way.
The chief shook his head , "Not that I am aware. But if you need some
one to show you around the ship." he said before Gary interrupted. "No
that is fine, I have studied the ship schematics. I can find my way.
Gary took one last look around. "Well I better be on my way, I will need
to get my quarter assignments and then check in with my new boss." He
grinned. The transporter Chief smiled, "Welcome aboard. You can check in
with the operations officer on duty on the bridge to get your quarters
assignment." Gary nodded. "Thank you." Was his short reply. Gary then
turned and headed out of the turbo lift door.
==bridge ==
Gary stepped off of the turbo lift and looked around the bridge. Things
seemed a bit low keyed at the moment. The bridge was manned by a
skeleton crew and the planet the ship was orbiting was in plain view on
the main view screen. With one finger pointing to the various stations
on the bridge he mumbled to himself as he marked each one with the
respective duty.{Tactical, Science station, Auxiliary tactical, Ah
operations.}.
Behind the operations console was a rather emotionless looking
lieutenant who seemed to be staring down at his console. Gary walked
over to the lieutenant and stood patiently for the lieutenant to
recognize his presence. Gary stood quietly for a minute or two. Feet
planted firmly on the floor and staring straight ahead at the wall
behind the lieutenant. After a minute or two Gary was wondering if the
lieutenant was either extreamly busy or , was too blind to realize a man
standing a few steps away from him to his right. Not wanting to be rude.
Gary let his now increasing heavy duffel on the floor. It hit with a
surprising loud thud. The lieutenant did not seem to notice the duffel
noise, but it did appear to get his attention. Soon the Leiutenant
looked over to Gary. "Can I help you.. Petty Officer?" He asked sounding
less than thrilled.
Gary snapped to attention, "Sir! Petty officer first Class Gary Williams
reporting for duty. " Gary snapped back with military precision. The
lieutenant Looked Gary up and down and then rose form his seat. "Welcome
aboard Petty officer, I am Lieutenant Andersen Foster, assistant
Operations officer." Andersen looked back at his console and tapped on
it. Andersen scanned across his console a few times and then grabbed a
pad sitting to his left. Assigned to the ODA, the new operations
specialist." Andersen said, not really looing for a response. Gary
remained still and quiet. Sticking the pad out at Gary he spoke. "You
have been assigned to quarters on deck 5, birth 145. This padd contains
your temporary security codes for the ship. You have 24 hours to change
the codes before they are disabled." Gary listened, as the information
seemed to come almost automatically form the operations officer.
Sarcastically Andersen continued. "If you do not change your codes, you
will have to fill out form ssf-214-d have it signed by your section head
and the executive officer of the ship in order to have them reset with a
new temporary code. I suggest you change them immediately." He
concluded. Gary looked down and took the pad. "Thank." he started to say
when Andersen swung around, grabbed another pad and shoved it at Gary.
"Here is the current inventory for the oda. All know equipment has been
listed and its current serviceability status. You will also find a
current roster of members of the oda." Gary looked down at the second
pad and then back up, HE began to speak when Andersen grabbed a third
pad and pointed it in Gary's direction. "This is a copy of your current
medical file. Once you have changed your codes and stowed your gear, go
down to the sickbay and schedule a physical with them. You have 7 days
to have your ship physical before the CMO starts taking heads." Andersen
said plainly. "If I were you, don't irritate the CMO, she doe not like
crew that avoid the sickbay. She will find you and hunt you down, and in
my opinion, make the experience less enjoyable."
Gary took the third pad and looked back at Andersen who was not looking
back at his console. Gary waited for a second, expecting another pad to
be thrust in his chest. "Duty rosters for the oda will be sent to you in
your quarters. You have clearance to view personnel records for the
enlisted members of the oda, but all other personnel access is
restricted. All personnel matters go through Marine Captain Walsh.
Holodeck requests, replication requests for materials and equipment can
be sent to the operations department with the approval of Marine Captain
Walsh. Any questions?" he rattled off before sitting down.
Gary shook his head, "No sir". He replied. Andersen was now looking at
his console again. Gary stood patiently waiting for the officer to
rattle off more information, but none came. Then Andersen looked up at
Gary, "Dismissed Petty Officer." He said somewhat annoyed. "Aye, Aye
Sir." Gary replied crisply. Gary reached down and picked up his duffel
and quickly turned around and headed back to the turbo lift.
{Not much on personality} he thought to himself as he stopped and waited
for the turbolift. {But a very organized response to my presence.} The
lift doors opened and he stepped in. "Deck 5" he said as the doors
closed. {If the rest of the crew is as organized as that man, then this
should be an easy assignment. Maybe I will get a little combat action
after all.} he thought as the lift hummed and stopped shortly after his
command.
Gary stepped off the lift in a bit of amazement. He had spent the
majority of his time on large starships and starbases. Now he was posted
on what was considered a small ship and the distance to travel form one
spot to another was nothing compared to traversing 25 decks on a
starbase to get a cup of coffee.. Now lugging his duffel over one
shoulder and the pads under another, Gary searched for his room.
After nearly circling the entire deck, Gary found his room, right next
to the very turbo lift he exited. He struggled to juggle the duffel
while he searched through the pads, looking for the temporary access
codes he had been issued. Dropping one pad and barely catching another,
he pulled the third out and scanned over it quickly. Having found the
code, he tapped on the little keypad next to the door and unlocked it.
"Lights" he called out as he stepped in to the room pushing the pad on
the floor in with his left foot.. The doors closed in behind him
quickly, as he dropped the duffel on the floor with another thud. He
looked around at the cramp quarters. There was a bed, a small bathroom,
and a small desk , nothing else. There was no room for anything else
either. Through his status on the ODA was that of the senior NCO, he was
still and NCO, and not privileged like the officers that roamed the. He
was a Petty officer, he worked for a living unlike officers who seemed
to think they worked by handing out orders.
Gary tucked the third pad under his arm and bent down to pick up the
first that had fallen on the floor. He then walked over to his desk and
set all three down. Just then he heard a noise, a low hum, followed by a
hiss. {DAMN!} he thought. {Cant these engineers ever figure out how to
sound proof these things. Why do I always get the room next to the
lift!}
Now wearing a frown, Gary returned to his duffel. Picking it up he set
it on the bed and opened it up. {First put my stuff away and then change
my codes. Afterwards I will head over to the infirmary to schedule my
physical. That way that lieutenant described the CMO, she must he a real
ball buster. Don't want to cross her.} he thought. Gary dumped the
contents of his duffel on the bed and proceeded to get his room
organized.
