===== Federation listening post, nothern federation space, near the neutral zone =====
The room was dark but noisy. Tenths of little screens were embedded in the wall consoles. Four man sat quietly at their posts and looked carefully into their own consoles. From time to time one or the other pushed a button. The interior proved federational technology, but the atmoshpere was a bit darker then on most of the 'merry' fleet ships. Noone of the four man spoke for long minutes, all were deep burrowed in their work. A typical working day on a Federational listening post stationed in deep space.
Working on a listening post was surely not an easy duty. First of all the crew maning such posts were very small, from two to six and this post had a crew of five. The sub-illness wasnt an unknown word here.
A blue little light flashed on one of the man's console. The young ensign looked at the light's location with a slight surpirse and tapped few buttons. His screen was immediately filled with quads of data this long range sensor listening post was picking up from a distant corner of this sector. For a minute the man watched the readings before he looked up and tried to adjust his eyesight to see in the dim light. "Lieutenant Parker, could you please come have a look at this readings?" he requested.
The four man in the room looked a bit surprised at the man who just spoke. Even if there were virtually mega tons of quads of data flowing under their hands, most of it was heavily coded or not easy to understand ... so summarised togehter, the duty on an listenin gpost like this was quite boring. A tall man clad in yellow stood up from his seat and went over to the ensign's seat and asked quietly: "What's up Collins?"
The ensign tapped a button and replayed the datastrem for the Lieutenant again. The Lieutenant watched the screen with increasing interest. After seeing the end of the data stream he asked: "What system exactly was that?" The ensign double ckecked it: "Kzinti system sir". The lieunenant scratched his chin, "Hmm ... an independent system, hardly explored. As far i remeber the Kzinti are a warp capable race and there have been even some minor intel surveys about that race done." He shook his head: "But this ...."
He bended over to the console and replayed the data stream again. He watched three stange ship's signatures that were detected just outside the Kzinti system. Those signatures were really strange. They moved very fast, warp 9,5 and even the listening post could trace them only for few seconds, the energy of this ships seemed to be at least amazing. Three sovegeign class ship's could not mess with one of those stange ship's energy source. The other stange thing was that the signatures of teh unknown ships ressembled a bit ... the Borg.
It resembled the borg in the way that it was from a part organic. That were for sure no artificial created ship like the starfleet used, the ship's appeared to be somehow ... alive. The tree signatures suddenly dissapeared and for some time there was nothing on the screen then the usual space backgroud noise. After a minute three other ship's signatures were detected. Romulan this time! Three Romulan war birds ...
The Lieuenant noded to himself and muttered: "I think Bragg might have some interest in this". Looking over at an another ensign in yellow he said: "Vries, request a secure channel to SB Bragg, i think i have some talk with SSF Ops today."
