It was not a secret that the SSF was maintained mainly by Marines. The vast majority of the ODA forces were marines and there were far more marines then naval officers in the leading structures of SSF. Shane knew only few Naval officers in charge of an SSF vessel and to be honest, the Chimera was under the command of an marine as well. "Quite well Commander. And Kzenti system is where I will send the Chimera" Shane said no word only noded. "As you've put rightly, the Kzenti System is 150 hours with warp 8 away from Deep Space 6 Station. Deep Space 6 marks the nothern bounders on federations space and the nearest federations presence in that sector is Deep Spce Europa." The Colonel paused before continuing: "Commander, do not count on any help from Europa cause she would need days to reach you at the Kzenti system Europa is a station, not a ship. I rely you now all intel informations about the Kzenti we have and you can make yourself a picture where we now send you. But shortly said ... we dont know much about the Kzenti. The Kzenti are an ancient isolationist race. There have been only two recorded encounters between the Kzenti and the Federation. The Kzenti made it clear that visitors are not wellcome." The colonel pushed a button and contiued: "Our intel report, even if very unclear, suggests that the Kzenti might have an interesting ship's technology and we found traces of organic technology. We dont know in what type of research the organic technology is used, but we take it that their organic technology is quite advanced" This was the first time Shane said something: "I see" he said @ lenght. "Two days ago, the Kzenti send a transmission to SF Command reqesting a single ship from the federation taking part on a diplomatic conference held on the Kzenti homeworld. It appears that the Kzenti are doing the first step to leave the isolation they live in. We want the Chimera to fly there and take part on the conference on behalf of the federation" Shane said nothing first and only after a moment he asked: "I understand Colonel, but please allow me a question. Considering that we have little to none diplomatic capabilities on board I wonder why was the Chimera choosen for this mission. I would guess some fleet ambassadorial ship taking this mission, not a SSF scout ship. Unless there is something else in game" Noe was Tecron's turn to be quite for a moment. Something resembling a weak smile appeared on his face: "Good question Commander. The point is that there is an another major power invited to the diplomatic conference." Shane looked at the Colonel with interest: {Heh ... I knew there is some more point ...} "The romulans are invited as well and as far we know they've send a war bird class ship there. I can imagine that the romulans are planing some little mischief to gain the Kzenti's favour." Tecron ended. "Hmmm" Shane started, "I dont wasnt to sound unpolite sir, but i still dont see why SSF is involved in this matter. Diplomatic missions are rarely SSF concern" The smile on Tecron's face widened a bit: "Well, its the ship's technology. As i said before, their technology seems to be quite advanced and the tactical advantage of gaining the technology will be surely great. Trouble is that the romulan think alike and the war bird flying into the Kzenti space is in fact a Tal Shiar ship. Starfleet Command decided that we should take this issue seriously and send the Special forces as well." After a small pause he went on: "The second reason is that the Kzenti requested a 'certain' ship. They've asked directly for an Interpid class vessel and that leads durectly to the Chimera. The other Interpid class ship's from SSF are weeks away from your current position. No, only the Chimera fits into this mission. Our concern is if its the case that the Kzenti wanted directly the Chimera and no other ship ..." Shane could not hide his surprise. "Why should they want the Chimera directly?" he wondered. Tecron frowned: "I wish we knew. But nonethless, I am assigning you to this mission Commander. In the informations you will find additional informations and a quite exact time shedule, so dont be late. The Kzenti are important for us. Keep you eyes open for any Romulan or Kzenti tricks Commander, we are counting on your sucess." "Yes sir" Shane replied, "We do our best, sir" "I dont expect any less Commander. Tecron out" and with that the screen went black again. For five minutes Shane remained in the chair thinking about the new assigment. He donloaded the informations from SSF Ops to a PADD and stood up from the chair, making his way back to the bridge. Once on the bridge, Shane went over to the Ops station and said to LT. Foster: "Lieutenant, inform all departments that we leave the orbit in two hours and let them make all preparations. Then please ask all senior officers to the conference longue for briefing in 2 hours 30 Minutes." Foster noded like nothing could evenr suprise the guy and he would 'expect' such orders: "Certainly sir" Not noticing the form of the reply Shane turned around and headed towards the turbo lift.
