=== Gary's quarters===
Gary sat back and looked over the two pads he had out on his desk. Each
pad had a list of items to be repaired. It just so happened that Gary
had divided the items up in to two groups, those items in the armory and
those items in the oda storage area. All that needed to be done was to
assign 'volunteers' to the tasks. There were not a lot of items needing
repairs, only about 7 or 8 hours of good hard work, so engaging all of
the oda members that were not on duty would not be necessary.
He figured the weapons and Armor that were stored in the armory would be
best service by the Weapons specialist. They above all were the
'experts' in weapons and should be more than capable of making the
necessary repairs. Gary tapped on his console and opened a channel.
"Petty officer Williams to Corporal Randal" he called out in a pliable
tone."
"Corporal Randall here Petty officer. How can I help you?" he said in a
pleasant tone.
"Corporal, I am sending you a lits of weapons and armor that need
repair. Please take Crewman Anders and Private Torok to the armory and
make the necessary repairs. You have unitl 06:30 tomorrow to have the
repairs completed." He said in a efficient voice.
"Repairs? Armory? " he stammered a bit. Gary could hear the corporals
voice start to sour with discontent. "On who's authority Petty officer?"
he replied.
"Authority?" Gary replied with a confusion." Why mine Corporal." Gary
started to get annoyed when it dawned on him that not all of the oda
would be aware of his presence and position on the ship. He added.
"Corporal I am the new Operations specialist for the ODA on this ship.
Now if you don't believe me then you can go ask the old man <<OOC:Old
man a term for the highest ranking member of a group, in this case
Marine Captain Walsh>>. But I warn you, he was the one that charged me
with assigning you the task." He added trying not to sound pushy.
"Petty officer?" Gary heard in almost a whisper. "Oh." Gary heard next.
"Ok Petty officer, we will get right on it. Sorry about the confusion, I
had heard we were getting a new Operations specialist, just did not know
who it was."
Gary smiled. "Quite alright Corporal. 06:30 and I will be checking.
Williams out." He closed the communication channel. Gary reached down
and tapped on the pad with the list of repairs in the armory. With in a
minute he had transferred the list to the corporals computer account.
Setting the pad down Gary picked up the other one. Though the equipment
was nto severly neglected, ther were several items of need of repair. In
his investigation Gary had found 4 of the whisper activated
communication devices that were not activating at a whisper. There were
2 combat tircorders that would not even power on and 3 more that read
Garys bio signs as a tholian. Along with a few other items, there was
plaenty of work as well to be had repairing these items. Gary set the
pad down and looked at his console, and the list of oda members. Of the
6 engineering specialist that were assigned to the oda, the two most
experienced and senior members were currently on security detail on the
ship. That left 3 junior enlisted men and one new transfer, a Specialist
Lynch. Though new to the ship Lynch had some time under his belt and
should know his way around a tricorder or two. Having little option he
decided Lynch was the best person to head up the detail to repair the
equipment.
Gary leaned forward and tapped on the pad with the list of equipment. He
added a map of the ship, highlighting the location of the oda storage
area on deck 11, and a list of the three junior oda members that would
assist him. He then sent the map and the list to Specialist lynch and
tapped on the console.
"Petty officer williams to Specialist Lynch."
"Lynch here petty offcier."
"Specialist lynch, I am the Operations specialist for the oda," Gary
started out with trying to avoid any confusion like with the corporal he
had spoken to before. "I have sent you a list of oda equipment items
that need repair. I do apologize for hitting you up with work so soon
after coming on board but you are the most senior man I have to head up
the repair detail." He paused for a second. "I snet you a list of items
needing repair as well as three names of other engineering specialists,
one from team Alpha; your junior in that team, and two from team bravo.
I also included directions to the oda storage area on deck 11 where the
equipment is located. Assemble your detail and have the equipment
repaired by 06:30 tomorrow." Gary said in a brief tone.
"Aye petty officer, will do."
"Thank you, and welcome aboard Specialist Lynch. Williams out."
Gary closed the communication channel. Now that the repair details were
handed out, Gary could start to work out training scenarios for Marine
Captain Walsh. Not sure what scenarios he thought he should suggest be
practiced first. He decided that he would review the SSF archives and
see which ones seemed to happen the most. Leaning forward, Gary pulled
up the SSF database and began to wade through the limited declassified
data to try to determine what he should start preparing for.
