<< OOC: a slight backlog, happens before the senior officers meeting >>
-= Bridge, USS Chimera =-
The turbolift doors opened to reveal the bridge. Gaalen walked out of it and headed straight for the ready room, where Cmdr Guzman was waiting for him. He ran the door chime, report in hand waiting for the chance to report his findings as well as the good health of the warpcore.
Shane was again just amazed how much paperwork was there waiting for a CO (even if acting only) to read and sign, accept, acknowledge, decide ... Bretam spoke rarely about the amount of paperwork he had to administer and the position of XO hold MUCH less paperwork. Sighing at the amount of PADD on the table in front of him, Shane took an another one and pushed a button to diplay the content.
As the door chime sounded, Shane looked up from his PADD and in his thoughts he thanked whom ever behind the door for the welcomed distraction from the paperwork. "Come in" he said and watched a blue-ish skinned officer entering the ready room. "Ah Lieutenant Idrani," he said recognizing the ship's DCEO, "I presume there is something on your mind when you came up here," he smiled. Idrani wasnt
exactly known for spending much time on the bridge, "What can i do for you?" Shane ended with a question.
Gaalen stood in all his height, holding yet another PADD. "Yes, Sir, I have good news and bad news that turn out to be alright, in my point of view." Shane nodded for him to carry on.
"The warpcore is now back online, every system is good to go." He looked down at the report and it's display, but did not read any of it, knowing it by heart. "The other news is that we found the cause of the problem. It was..." He hesitated for a second, not knowing how the CO would react to the news. "It was sabotage, sir."
When Gaalen announced the warp core problem as solved, Shane's face brightened a bit. No commanding officer (not even an acting one) liked when the ship's warp core wasnt in best shape. Afterall, the warp core was the heart of the ship and like a human cant live without one ... so couldnt a ship eighter.
Shane's expression changed quite a lot upon the words of sabotage. {Here? How? When?} Shane's thoughts bursted all at the same time. He needed a moment to calm innerly down before speaking: "Sabotage Lieutenant? Thats a VERY serious issue, please elaborate ..."
"I did not find it normal, that a piece of equipment would break, when I keep on running diagnostics of all systems, just so I can know what the ship is like when I started as deputy chief engineer. My teams did a great job with the task at hand, and Ensign Alshain discovered, on the site of the damage, a regulator,
which was caught in the system. The sensor grid was fused in that area, bypassed so the computer would not notice the problem's origin."
Shane noded at Gaalen's words explaining how they've discovered the actual problem with the warp core and the traces leading univetablely to one conclusion ... sabotage. Shane payed Gallen full attention, sabotage was a very serious issue and on an SSF ship even more. There was always a chance for an agent of an enemy power to infiltrate the SSF ... {Maybe this time?} Shane shifted in the seat when asking: "Have you compromised the person responsible for this Lieutenant?"
"Yes sir. We found on the site, biological evidence which is backed by internal sensor logs that..." He stopped wirhgting his words and the inplication of them on the Tetris II Colony. "It was the governor's son, Phillip that sabotaged the ship. We found his finger prints on the regulator, hair and dead skin flakes in the area of the sabotage and the internal sensors show he left his quarters at 0500 in the morning, the night of the sabotage."
Shane stared at the DCEO for several seconds. {Geeez ... that teenager?! How?} he asked himself. He relaxed a bit now, a teeager saboteur was surely less dangerous then an gorn one. But still sabotage was a serious issue and Shane could not belive that an boy was able to sabotage an SSF ship. "Two questions Lieutenant. Is Phillip Smart still on the ship and how the heck did he manage to do sabotage here?" the tone in Shane's voice was a bit under his usual mood, not a good sign.
"No, sir, Mr. Smart was beamed on the planet with the other kids, before we knew of the foul play, and to answer your second question, well, there are emergency kits layed throughout the ship, for engineers to use, they are not protected, just like first aid kits, but maybe they should. His monkeywrenching was quite easy to do, most people would know how to do it, I bet if we
investigater further, we'll find out he has some engineering tendencies and knew how to efficiently sabotage the system. He did very effectively bypass the sensor grid of the EPS conduits on deck 12 section 4-A before doing anything." Gaalen said, standing to his full height.
"If you have any other questions, sir?" He said, extending the PADD to Shane"
Shane took the offered PADD and skimmed through its content. The traces of evidence against the young Smart were there present and Shane had finally a waepon against his father and his threats. But the whole issue threw a shadow on the ship's security and that was something Shane could not tolerate.
"Lieutenant, please prepare for me a plan how to avoid a smimilar situation to happen. If a teenager could sabotage us virtually without problems, what could do a real saboteur to the ship?"
Gaalen noded: "Aye Commander"
Shane smiled a bit. He didnt want to discourage his Engineer in charge so he said: "By the way ... good work in revealing the saboteurs identity Lieutenant. Dismissed".
