*** Holodeck 2 * USS Chimera *** An icy wind was blowing from the foot of the hills as Polly Gill pulled her cherry-red woollen hat over her ears. Adjusting her right mitten, Polly looked at her friend and fellow med technician Ayanna Toshi and asked. "This one is alot steeper...sure you want to try it?" Ayanna gave a friendly smile. "Ya." Excitedly, she strapped on the snowbord to the boot and then looked back at Polly. "I'll go frist. See ya at the bottom." She pushed off and headed down the steep side. Polly watched her friend disappear around a curve of the hill in a spray of snow. She bent forward and fastened the straps on her own board. Rubbing a mittened hand on her nose that now almost matched her hat in colour, Polly pushed herself away and rocketed down the slope with a squeal of excitement. The wind was picking up and snow was being blown every where. Her vison became blurry with the white powdery snow blowing in her face. She squinted her eyes as she tried to see in front of her. With her vision blurry and her speed increasing it became harder for her to control her direction. Ahead of her was a large rock covered with snow and it blended all too well with the side of the hill. Unable to see, Ayanny crashed into the rock. {I KNEW this was a mistake} Polly thought as soon as she turned the bend of the hillside, for the wind hit her with some force as it blew the powdery snow into new drifts.Polly peered into the whiteness but didnt travel far before she found herself face down in the cold snow. She sat up wiped her hands across her face and opened her eyes just in time to see her board vanish into the distance. With a sigh, she struggled to her feet. "AYannaaaaaaaa" she called. But no reply came. Frowning now, Polly edged down the steep slope on foot. Ayanna sat up and looked at her arm. She could see no fracture but the pain told her otherwise. Ayanna stuggled to her feet and looked around. {Were is Polly?} She thought as she unstapped her bord. Ayanna set her bord against the rock and sat there holding her arm close to her chest. "Ooooh" Polly slipped and began to slide down the slope, dragging her hands through the snow in an effort to stop. "Ayanna!!" she cried too late as she saw her friends figure. Polly grabbed at the board, caught her foot on the hidden rock and spun to an undignified halt as Ayannas board followed in the direction her own had gone. She sat in the drift of snow and looked at her friend. A second later she was scambling forward. "You're hurt? what have you done?" she asked. " I think I broke my arm." She said as she helped her friend up. "Are you ok?" Worried her friend might have hurt herself as well. "Yes I'm fine" Polly replied staring at the way Ayanna cradled her arm."We need to get you to sickbay" she added. "Computer....end programme" The sparkling snow white mountains disappeared and the two girls found themselves standing in the empty holodeck. "Come on.." Polly said, gently putting a supporting hand under her friends elbow "..it isnt far" Ayanna nodded and headed for sickbay with Polly beside her. **Sickbay** "Ma'am?" Polly called as she and Ayanna entered sickbay. Rangi turned from where she stood watching an engineer examine the biocluster and immediately hurried towards the two figures walking slowly into the room. "Whats happened?" she asked. Polly looked at her friend "A broken arm we think" she replied. Ayanna still cradling her arm gritted her teeth a little from the pain in her arm. She quietly stood there and looked at her arm. "Come to the biobed." Rangi said guiding the injured girl. Polly reached forward and whipped off Ayannas woolly hat, following behind and removing her own hat and mittens. "What were you doing?" Rangi asked Ayanna as they reached the biobed. "Snowbording..." She said quietly. "I hit a rock..." She looked up at Rangi as she examined her arm. The tricorder showed a fracture which was as they had expected.Rangi took a hypospray and administered a painkiller. " Just give that second or so.." she said " and then we need to remove this jacket." Polly glanced around and saw the engineer had stopped work to watch them. He gave her a questioning look and Polly mouthed 'broken arm' at him. He nodded and looked impressed. "Ok..so lets try to ease this off shall we?" Rangi gave Ayanna an encouraging smile. Ayanna smiled and nodded and started to ease the coat off. "So tell me about the snowboarding." Rangi said scanning the arm a second time now that it was free from the thick jackets sleeve "I take it you're usually better at it than this?" " Ya..." She replied glumly. "It's just that it was hard to see and the rock was covered in snow so I couldn't see it and ended up crashing right into it." "You're lucky to have come off so lightly then." Rangi stated activating a protoplaser."This wont hurt...as I'm sure you know " she smiled at the technician "...just a tingle ok?" The engineer took a step or two nearer Ayannas position. She grined slightly. "Ok" She sat there watching the engineer Rangi had always liked using the anabolic protoplasers for the effect was fairly dramatic and never left scars as old fashioned surgery would have done. Polly noticed Ayannas gaze turn to the engineer and saw him smile at her in a friendly way.Rangis work was soon complete. "There!" she said standing back and looking at Ayanna. "How does that feel?" She picked up the tricorder and began a final scan Ayanna looked at Rangi. "It feels great. Thanks." She smiled and looked down at her arm. The scan was soon done and the tricorder set aside. "I want you to rest the arm for two days...then come in and have it checked...but it should be fine." Rangi turned her head to see what held her patients attention. "Ensign?...did you want something?" she asked the engineer. Ayanna looked back up at the engineer with a sort of questioning look. She gave a small friendly smile as she looked at him "No...no ma'am ..thankyou." He turned smartly away and resumed his work on the biocluster. Polly hid a smile as she picked up Ayannas jacket. "Two days then...take things easy and then back here ok?" Rangi repeated her instructions. The engineer risked a quick glance in Ayannas direction. Ayanna nodded in understanding and stood. Glancing back at the engineer she smiled then took her coat from Polly. "I'll see you in two days." she said to Rangi. Rangi nodded and picked up a medpadd, beginning to write an update into Technician Toshis history. Polly helped Ayanna drape the jacket around her shoulders. "Lets get soemthing to eat." she said..and added with a wink" He looks nice." Ayannablushed slightly. "Lets go eat." She said smiling. *** End Log *** Ayanna Toshi Med Tech.
