===Observation Lounge ===
Gary stood patiently in the middle of the lounge waiting for the ODA
commander to arrive. They had all been assembled upon Walsh's request.
The buzz was there was a new mission and they were about to get their
orders. Little was known about exactly what the mission was. Some of the
more eager ones prayed that it was some full out combat. In the back of
gary's mind he had hoped so as well, but did not let it slip out that
was his wish as well. As the senior nco he could not talk of such
things, and as senior nco, he knew the odds of a full blown fight was
slim.
Gary focused on the pad in his hands. He was working on individual
training for the various specialties in the oda. Prior to the assembly
he had gathered several scenarios from the SSF archives he thought would
be useful. He chose 4 in particular; ANTI-TERROISM TRAINING, SPECIAL
RECONNAISSANCE, UNCONVENTIONAL WARFARE , COMBAT SEARCH AND RESCUE. He
felt that each of them would provide valuable training in areas the oda
had not previously trained or experienced. Each of the holo programs
could be used for single and multiple team training, allowed for a wide
variety of known and imagined species opponents and a full range of
environments. Gary had forwarded the information along with his
recommendations of which one to begin with to Walsh and Mcknight.
One thing Gary could not find to his satisfaction was a holo program for
each of the specialties in the ODA that would test and challenge them.
Sure there were the standard holo programs that were used in basic SSF
training, but they were generic, and predictable. So Gary decided that a
little personal holo programming for individuals was in order. As he
waited for Walsh to show up he tapped away at his pad and finished off
his first custom program.
As Walsh walked in to the room and McKnight Called attention, Gary
neatly tucked the padd under his left arm and stiffened up. The command
of "at Ease from Walsh. Gary relaxed a bit and listened to Walsh and the
mission the ship was apparently on.
Gary was just as enthused, as Walsh seemed to be. If everything went
according to the senario, there would be no combat and a lot of walking
the desks making sure some rogue romulan did not mysteriously beam in to
main engineering to look at the latest and greatest the Starfleet
engineers had to offer. But at least there would be something to keep
the oda members busy, even if it was baby sitting and ships security.
Letting Walsh's words pass over him, he started to formulate a training
schedule. He soon snapped back to reality when he heard Walsh tell the
newest member of the oda ordered to work with Gary on individual
training. {The old man and I must be thinking alike} he thought barely
cracking a smile.
As Walsh dismissed the formation, Gary turned and scanned the crowd for
the new private. He had seen a personel file on the romulan private. He
half wondered if Walsh assigned Mondana more because she was romulan,
and the romulans were invited to the little "negations" that were being
held, or may be because she was a private. Either way, Gary had his
orders and that was that. Not seeing the private, he headed out of the
lounge and to his office. Since he had some one to train immediately he
needed to prepare for it. And he needed every minute he could squeeze
out, in a few hours he was going to have to stop his work once again,
and attend his ship physical that was due.
