== /\ USS Chimera, Temporary Sickbay /\ === The figure materialised in front of her and Rangi recognised Marine Captain Walsh. He was unconscious which Rangi considered a good thing seeing the shape he was in. Nurse Fleming appeared beside her. "Need some help?" she asked and then added "Ohh...its Jack Walsh" Rangi began a scan."Concussion....contusions....mmm..a fracture. OK." she lowered the tricorder. "4cc s trianolene please and lets hope he stays out of it for a moment or two." Jack was in a state of blackness, that was the best way to describe it in all honesty, he was having delusions in his mind about dancing bears in fez hats in the middle of an icy Russian winter. That lasted for only a few moments however as a sharp pang filled his head and he faded into reality. "What the hells going on?" He groaned as the pain in his leg made itself obvious. A hand touched his shoulder. "You're in sickbay....but you're alright...I'm treating you...please lie still and I'll give you something for the pain." Lucy offered the hypospray again, already reloaded with a painkiller. Rangi pressed the cool instrument against Jacks neck and administered the dose. Seeing that he was able to focus she waited until he turned his head towards her and told him " You'll feel easier in a moment...don't worry...you're ok" "That's easy for you to say, you can't see the inside of your damn leg." Jack almost barked, angry at himself that he'd let himself get injured at such a critical time. Rangi didn't reply and Jack just lay there for a moment before he etched himself up on his elbows and tried to get off the biobed. "I've got to get back to the ODA Offices, they'll need me to co-ordinate things. I need to get back to duty!" Jack almost mussed to himself as he felt more blood trickle down his face. "Lie down captain...you're not going anywhere." Rangi's voice was calm and matter of fact. Lucy looked at him as if to say 'better do as she says' and pressed her hand against his shoulder. "You have a fractured leg...multiple contusions...and that.." she pointed to his head as he wiped his hand across his eyes. " It will be a little while before you're fit to leave here..and I suggest we cut short the heroics and let me get on with the treatment." Jack was almost glad that the Chief Medical Officer had been so firm in her objection to him leaving, as he was beginning to feel that getting up was a bit of a mistake, as he almost withered his way onto his back like a dead plant. "Got anything for me to read whilst you work?" Jack let out a slight chuckle which developed into a cough as some blood became caught in his throat and a searing pain filled his abdomen. "Impedrizine?" Lucy asked looking at Rangi who nodded. "I'm afraid I don't have anything that might be as distracting as your usual reading material." she replied concentrating on fitting an osteotractor together. "...just padds on standard anatomy." Lucy glanced at her and saw a small smile which disappeared as Rangi raised her head. " "That's ok, If I need to know anything relating to that in the field I have a medical specialist to do it for me. That's actually why I love my job" he spluttered a bit more. "I have a specialist for everything, I just have to point them where to specialize" he groaned a bit as the pain rode on his chest again. "Captain?" Rangi frowned at Jacks grimace of pain. "Lucy...set that for me please.." Lucy took hold of the ostrotractor and set it near Walsh's leg. A gentle low pitched 'hum' began to sound. Rangi reactivated the tricorder, holding it above the captains abdomen. {Geeez.} she thought to herself and gave her patient a standard smile of reassurance. "I'm going to top up the analgesic" she said almost conversationally and reached to the medication set out on the nearby tray. " Whats the state of deck 5? she asked "Do you know?" "Erm." Jack coughed again. "I've sent three teams to clear everyone out. They should all be done by now." Jack caught the Chief's eyes. "If they aren't I'll be bloody fuming" he chuckled slightly. "What's the state of my insides doc? Am I going to die or what?" "Mmmmmm...not today....hopefully!" Rangi replied and this time the small smile was obvious. "How are things there Lucy?" she asked turning to the nurse. "Fine..fine...straight forward really." Lucy tone might have been taken as slightly disappointed. Rangi looked satisfied and returned her attention to Jack. "Captain?..I'm going to sedate you...not fully. You wont feel any pain..just be aware of...pressure perhaps..There's a little something that needs attending to." She met his eye and saw a glimpse of apprehension. "Dont worry ..you'll be fine...trust me." She smiled at him. "You don't exactly fill me with confidence Doc, tell me what it is you're going to do? I'm a big boy I can take it." he looked at her sternly. "There's some internal bleeding...easily solved with minor surgery...but I don't want to fully sedate you." She moved her eyes to the gash on his head and back." You had a nasty crack there and I'd rather you stayed in the land of the lucid Ok?" "Ok, that's all I wanted Commander, a little honesty. That's the difference between a med spec and a fleet doctor I guess." he lashed out verbally at the doc as she gave him the sedative, which felt good, relaxing Jack a great deal. Rangi turned to Lucy."As soon as you've completed it...I need assistance. " "Almost done." Rangi turned to her tray of instruments and selected a type 4 exoscalpel. Checking that jack seemed happy she exposed his abdomen, sprayed something cold across it that made him blink and began an incision. Luct moved opposite her and together they began to do something that Jack couldn't see. It was probably best that Jack couldn't see anything because he'd seen someone's chest cracked a few times in the field and it wasn't pretty. The pressure from opening Jacks chest did relieve some of the pain, but a spurt of blood sprayed onto Rangi's uniform, which did actually cause some amusement to Jack. "Hey that tickles" he laughed a bit. Lucy looked across at Rangi "Need a three?" "Mmm yes I think so" Rangi glanced at Jack lying with a grin on his face. "Captain?...this might..tickle a bit more...please try to stay still?" "Hey, you're the one who sedated me!" As Rangi swapped scalpals Walsh noticed that he had pushed the battle noise out of his mind, the Chimera was still under attack however and he wished that he was up on his feet to make sure that his people were doing their jobs. "Done yet?" he rolled his eyes in his head growing bored. "Almost" Rangi replied without turning away from her work " Autosuture there please." A moment or two passed "Another one...thats fine..fine thankyou....almost done..still feeling happy captain?" she asked and at the same moment the ship rocked side to side in a violent motion. Someone screamed, the lighting dimmed, went out and came on. A number of crashing sounds indicated minor disasters throughout the bay. Lucy looked across their patient at Rangi " Missed?" she said and forced a grin. "OK Captain?" Rangi asked looking at Jack "Never been better" Jack replied after a moments pause. "Actually thats a lie, I'm a state at the moment aren't I" Jack flinched slightly. "Hey." he caught the eye line of the nurse helping Rangi, Lucy he thought her name was. "Hows about you and I go out after this?" he smirked, always looking for the next woman. Lucy glanced quickly at the CMO and then at Jack. "Doubt if you could keep pace with me captain." she replied and grinned at him mischievously. She returned to her work and in a few moments it appeared that all was completed. "Right...what next?" Rangi asked "...Lets have a look at that laceration...." ===== MCaptain Jack Walsh ODA Commander USS Chimera, SSF & Lt.Cdr Rangi Summers AXO & Chief of Medicine. USS Chimera, SSF
