===== Bridge (or what's left of it), USS Chimera ===== Shane was not sure how long he was unable to concentrate on things ... but it was most probably only a moment, cause when he tried with some effort to stand up, other's on the bridge were just trying the same. A sharp pain in his arm releaved the wound there and Shane hissed through his teeths. Every faster move with that hand cased him pain and therefore he didnt try for the moment. Looking around he tried to identify those who were able to stand on their feets. {Three ... four ...} Shane saw only four other officers ... the rest must have been wounded somehere around. If it woudlnt be anywehere else but the bridge and anytime else as during a battle, Shane would instantly try to help those wounded, but at the moment ... he couldnt afford the luxury. There was a Warbird somewhere out there ... and the Chimera was not far from beeing destroyed! Shane blinked with his eyes again and concentrated on his CTAC who was trying to find alternatives ... "Sir" Acheson called out. "What if we launch a probe. We can use the telemetry to target our torpedos." Shane nodded. "Can it be done?" At that moment three teal glad figures crawled from a jeffries tube exit passing Corporal Pressman, who hold the watch for intruders. And yes, Shane was wondering why the romulans didnt try to baord the Chimera. Whithout shilds ... they were an easy target. "Shane" Rangi said, hastening towards him with clear visible worry in her face, "Commander...you're injured." she added after a small hesistation. Shane had to smile ... even if they were lovers for quite a time by now, in duty and in front of other officers, they kept using some formalism and ranks. Shane's eyes lit a bit when looking at her, she was alive and from the first impression unharmend ... and that was a lot. The other two woman that came behind Rangi were Dr. Quiocho and a medical NCO that Shane knew only by the first name. {Lucy, aunt Lucy}. Mai immediately kneeled to the first wounded lying on the floor and with Lucy tented him. Only with a gesture Shane asked Rangi to wait a moment. He knew he could not ask her to tend others, she wouldnd agree. He knew he would act the same when seeing Rangi wounded and cause it was an unwritten rule that the CMO attended the Captain first, he could not even complain. Acheson walked to the rear and typed out a few commands on the console before shaking his head in disgust. "Never mind. We have no way of receiving and interpreting the telemetry. That computer system is offline." He went back to his work and then had another idea. "We could maybe launch a shuttle. Communications are online, so we could maybe find out by subspace where the ship his." A voice called out from the darkened room. "Can't. The shuttlebay door operating mechanism is on a deck with a compromised power system. To draw that much current, you'd need to take life support off on that deck and can barely maneuver there as it is. I don't see it being feasible to evacuate it just yet." Nate nodded, before continuing with another idea. "What if .... we use an older, dualtronic sensor array? We could probably set it up fast and its data would be slow, but it would be reasonably accurate." Shane noded. He still had a heavy head and he's got no other idea how to imporve the situation. "Make it so Captain" he said, "we are now blind and an easy target, I know i dont have to tell you what does it mean". Acheson shook his head: "No sir, my imagination is more then enought". With that he swiftly went to the jeffries tube and dissapeared there. Rangi stood beside his chair, reaching towards his left arm where blood was oozing from a wound, partly hidden by his ripped sleeve. Shane smiled weakly again and said quietly, not more loudly then a sigh: "Rangi ..." She quickly knelt and unclipped her medcase. She took a medical tricoder and a hypospray from teh case and stood up again. "its not that bad" Shane said trying to play heroish. With a fast movement, Rangi ripped the sleeve a bit more. "I thought its my job to decide that" she said with a slight smile on her face. Shane smiled back, he knew the two of them would not agree on the fact how severe that would was. Rangi finished her scans with the tricoder and kneeled down for a little vial that she embedded in teh hypospray and a small protophaser. Without a word she injected the content of teh hypospray into Shane's hand, some 30 cm above the wound and then started to tned the wound with teh last piece of equipment in her hand. "You are all right Rangi, arent you?" he asked quietly. She looked up at him and said quietly back: "Yes, I am but you're not, so dont speak and hold still". Shane had to smile again. "Sure?" he asked. "Definitely" she replied and looked down on his hand again. As Rangi finished she turned off teh protophaser and said: "I still need you to come down to the temporary sickbay in Cargo bay one when this is over, but for now it should be enough. What about your head?" she asked. Shane shrugged. From the scan she surely learned that he's hit his head against the floor. "I am fine Rangi, i can see how beautifull you look like and thats proove enough". Rangi looked at him sceptically, but the noded: "I trust you for this time" and smiled. The she turned around and went away from him searching in the dim light on the bridge for any other woudned crew. Shane looked at his beloved for a moment before turning around and walking towards one the the few wrking consoles nearby. Suddenly some lights on teh bridge went on and a few more consoles went online. +TAPS+ Idrani to the Bridge +TAPS+ Guzman here +TAPS+ We've managed to get secondary power online Commander, but that might change again when we will receive any other hit. Warp core is offline and it will take 6 hours best to get it working again. +TAPS+ I understand. What about shields? Without them are we dammed. +TAPS+ I am sorry Commander, but most of the EPS relays are destroyed, we have no connections with some decks and I am glad we manage to make the structural integrity field holding. +TAPS+ Do your best Lieutenant. {Doing less might be your last work in life} +TAPS+ Understood. Shane sighed and with resigantion he carefully sat himself in the CO's seat. The Chimera was a fine target, blind with no sensors, like a duck without any engine power and weak with no shields. Two good shots and the Chimera is history. He never felt this powerless before. There was always a way how to avoid the end ... how to make a loose a victory. This was of course not the first battle Shane was in, but it might be very well the last one. Suddenly his comdage came alive: +TAPS+ Acheson to Commander Guzman +TAPS+ Go ahead Captain +TAPS+ We have managed to set up the array and with the secondary power get in working. We have scanned the battle range twice to avoid any mistake, but the Warbird is nowhere to seen! Shane's eyes opened in surprise. +TAPS+ What? +TAPS+ Yes, sir. We've found no traces of the warbird, only debrises from us and teh romulans. +TAPS+ You mean the Warbird is destroyed? +TAPS+ Negatively sir. The cumulated mass of the debrises is hardly a fifth of the Warbirds mass. +TAPS+ Cloaked? +TAPS+ I doubt it. The Warbird took even more damage then we did. I cant imagine them having a working cloak. I cant explain it for now, but the warbird just dissapeared. +TAPS+ I see. Continue with your scans Captain, i dont want to get any surprises. And ... good work Captain. Shane's face lightend up ... {Maybe today ISNT a good day to die!} ===== End of log ===== Cmdr. Shane Guzman XO/ACO USS Chimera <<OOC ... hey folks, with this the battle is over, but the damage we took is great. We've suffered a lot of wounded as well, please dont forget it when logging.
