===== Cargo Bay 1, part II ===== "Lieutenant" Shane started a bit more officially then he initially wanted, "the CMO asked you to stay here for a treatment" he said towards Athena in a duty way tone. Something in Athena's way how she took Rangi's words with ease startled him somewhat. The last thing he needed was a counselor-heroes. He was weak and tired after the battle and he was not in mood for Athena's typical 'way of life'. Athena sighed softly and grimaced as she sat on the biobed. "Thank you," Rangi said and stepped closer to the counselor. She took a deep breath. "Now then...let me look again please." Shane couldn't decide if he was glad that Athena returned or if he would prefer that she would leave. If he should be honest to himself ... he felt not much at ease here. Athena lifted up her shirt letting Rangi explore the bruised area again and more closely. Athena had heard about the Romulan ship from some of the injured that had been around form the bridge. She looked at Shane and said, "Sorry, I never made it to the bridge." {Yes,} Shane said to himself, {she could be of help there}. He was about to nod when he realized that he didn't request her to come and not even a telepath like Athena can guess his mind when tenths of meters away from him. "Don't worry" he replied finally, "there was little of use for anything else then phasers." He looked at Rangi and asked: "You say Athena is fit for duty?" Rangi nodded...her attention on Athena's severe bruising. "She will be. Please...." she turned her head to look at Shane "...can you load a hypospray for me? ...sinolyathin." She knew he would do this promptly for he too had medical training. Shane hesitated for a second. His medical training was long ago and quite forgotten by now ... after all those years in Tactical. But he tried his best and loaded the empty hypospray with the medicament required. He hoped no one noticed that ... but he had to read the little etiquette to be sure what to load. Turning to Athena he asked: "There was definitely something not all right with the warbird that attacked us. Have you maybe felt something unusual during the battle Athena?" Athena looked at him a hesitated a bit as she tried how to put it into words. She jerked just a bit and then relaxed and shook her head a bit. "I felt as though something was off, but... I don't know. It was just different from what I would have thought." Rangi had selected an anabolic protoplaser and set it to a level 4. The bruising was extensive but the fractured rib was Rangi's main concern. The pain killer would have numbed all sensation Rangi knew, so she worked steadily as the conversation passed between Shane and the counselor. Shane listened to Athena with interest. She could really be of great asset in this mystery: "What do you mean with off Athena ..." Athena looked up toward the ceiling in thought still think how to describe what she had sensed. More talking aloud to herself then anyone around her she rambled softly, "It was deceptive but not as in getting the better of the situation... It was curious and .....it lacked a sense of distrust or maybe dislike is a better word." As though it had just occurred to her that someone had asked her a question she met Shane's gaze with a glassy one of her one and replied, "It felt more like a test..." Her words fell flat as she continued to look at the commanding officer. It did not take long to heal the cracked rib but the bruising was another matter. Rangi began treating it, selecting the worst places first, though they were difficult to select for there were so many to choose from. She paid attention to the conversation, though adding nothing herself. Her work was finally done. She applied a soothing salve to what remained of the bruising and, as she did so, looked at Shane, whose concentration was soley on the counselor. Rangi completed her job and quietly packed away the used tools and vials. Shane was now deep in thoughts. Athena's feelings about a test and the mysterious and very suspicious dissapearance of the Romulan Warbird were things that bothered him quite a lot. If there was really someone wanting to test them, who was it? And above all questions ... WHY? Were maybe the romulans testing how far the federation intented to go in the Kzenti case? Or is there something else in play? "When Rangi is finished with you, I would like to have a report from you Athena. Your feelings might proove to be very important in this case, please mentione anything, no matter how important it might look. I need to have a talk with Oriana, maybe science can help us here a bit". ===== End of log ===== LtCmdr. Rangi Summers CMO/AXO USS Chimera & LT. Athena Wellington Counselor & Cmdr.
