Felicity had been running an experiment in one of the labs when the red alert
lights started flashing she quickly secured the test tubes that contained
liquids and moved to put the empties away when the ship rocked. She balanced
herself by slamming her hand on to the counter top. In doing so she smashed one
of the tubes that had fallen over under her hand. She moved quickly but as
another shaking wave hit the ship Felicity found herself falling with the last
half dozen tubes that she need to put away. She fell hard hitting her head on
a storage cabinet. Her head felt warm as did several spots on her arms and
one on her chest. She shook the dizziness form her head and upon seeing the
blood dripping from her hand headed for medical attention. The ride on the
turbolift was jerky and fuzzy. She felt someone grab her arm and she went they way
they directed her. She wiped blood from her face and hoped that she would
see better but her vision still seemed out of focus.
Steve was the first to respond to the cry of "Hey Doc!!!!!" that resounded
through sickbay. The figure that met his eye beckoned to him but Steve switched
his attention immediately to a second figure that stood swaying slightly at
the first man's side. "Hey Doc...she needs help...found her outside the lift."
Steve had hurried forward as the security officer related the tale. He took
the woman's arm and bending his head looked into the blood spattered face, for
she was quite a lot shorter than he. "You're in sickbay," he said, trying to
assess the cause of the bleeding. He led her slowly towards the biobed and
guided her to sit on the edge of it. "You need to lay back," he said and
supported her carefully. "The biobed overhead display lit up and the biosign
indicators leveled into sequence. Steve studied them as he asked, "What's your
name..and what happened to you?"
Felicity looked up at the tall figure fuzzy figure. She was glad for the
warm strong arms that had begun to help her and soon she was lying down.
"Felicity.." she said softly. She reached for the partial test tube that was
sticking from her chest near her shoulder.
"No, leave that!" Steve's hand covered Felicity's and prevented her from
touching the object. When her hand relaxed, Steve laid it gently beside her body.
"I'll deal with it," he said and turned to the tray of equipment waiting in
readiness beside the biobed. He selected a soft pad and moistened it with liquid
from a small container. With great care, he wiped the pad across her face,
cleaning the congealing blood away and exposing the laceration that caused it.
Felicity was having trouble keeping her eyes open. She looked in the
direction of the warm concerned voice. "I'm ::small breath:: so tired," she managed
to push through her lips before her eyes fell closed. She gave a small sigh
because with the darkness came less pain.
Steve acted quickly selecting a loaded hypospray and administering
cordrazine. The display above the bed told him she was stabilizing and he moved swiftly
to remove the broken test tube, stemming the blood flow and using a second
hypospray to administer Hyvroxilated Quint-ethyl Metacetamine.
Groggily she answered, "Moore." Felicity was answering questions she had
been asked but everything seemed confused in her head. She opened her eyes and
looked up into the doctor's face briefly before her eyes fell closed again.
"More?" Steve frowned, pausing momentarily then continuing to work as fast as
possible in removing the shards of glass from Felicity's arm and hand. He
cleaned the wounds as he went, checking continuously on her condition. He gave a
second shot of cordrazine and stood waiting for her to waken more fully.
Felicity's eyes fluttered open to see a pair of blue ones looking at her. "I
broke some test tubes," she said with a confused look. She shook her head
and then winced as she wished she hadn't done that. "Was that your question,"
she asked still more than a bit confused.
Steve smiled. "Yes, it was...about ten minutes ago," he replied. He looked
at her hand that he was still treating. The main work had been done but he was
covering it in a soft dressing. "There," he said, "that will feel sore for a
few days but no lasting damage done." He had hardly spoken the last word when
the ship shook violently.
Felicity sat up quickly and screamed as the ship shook. Her head swam a bit
yet at her quick movements and her hand grabbed at the doctor beside her.
Steve grabbed the side of the bed to steady himself. He took hold of her arm
waiting for the shuddering to stop completely. Looking around the sickbay he
wondered what was happening and what to expect next. At the warmth of the
doctor's hand on her arm, Felicity took a deep breath and sagged against him as
her body started to tremble.
"Its OK...don't worry..its OK," Steve said in his best reassuring manner but
a second shudder, stronger than the first told him that worrying was probably
a wise thing to do.
She took a deep breath as her body continued to tremble. "Who are you," she
stammered.
"Steve Desoto," he replied and gave her a small smile. "AMO here...and I've
seen you before I think...at the Winter ball...you wore pink gown, didn't
you?" He was grasping for anything that might take her mind off the present
situation.
Felicity nodded her head since she didn't think anybody even knew she was at
the winter ball. With another deep breath her body took a last shudder as she
nestled further into his warmth. "I'm Felicity Moore." She couldn't
remember if she had already told him that or not.
"Ah..." he said and smiled to himself realizing what she had meant earlier.
"You want to lay back again?" he asked.
"Yes," she said softly, "but I don't think I can do it by myself," she winced
a bit as she moved her shoulder.
"OK..." Steve placed an arm behind her shoulders.
A more comfortable expression passed across her face once she was back in a
prone position. "I don't feel quite so sick to my stomach now," she said with
a smile. She noticed Steve look around and she grabbed his arm granting her
his instant attention. With a slightly frantic expression in her eyes she
asked, "Will you stay with me?"
A frown passed across his face. "There's no need to worry," he replied, but
seeing a real fear in her eyes nodded slowly. "Look..I'll give you a light
sedative...it will make you feel calmer...and yes...I'll stay with you for a
while."
Felicity heard the hiss as Steve administered the medication. She gave him a
smile and took a couple calming breaths as she watched him while he stood
next to her. As the lights flickered, she began to feel nervous again and took
Steve's hand in hers. She ignored the surprised expression that passed across
his face. She frowned briefly as the sedative spread its magic through her
body. A timid smile passed across her face before her eyes grew droopy and
finally closed in a relaxed sleep.
