*** Temporary Sickbay * USS Chimera *** "Remember you asked me to watch you?" Scott asked, pushing himself away from the stacked boxes he had been leaning against. Rangi, concentrating on adding information to a medpadd answered vaguely: " Mmmm?" and continued tapping, stopped, deleted a line and continued. Scott said "Well I have been...and I think thats enough." He took hold of the medpadd and met her eye as she looked up, frowning at the interruption. "You're tired and you need to rest." he told her, his tone implying that she knew he was right. They measured glances. "I've still got alot to do..and.." "And you'll do it better after you've had a rest." Scott insisted and seeing a weakening of resolve, took the medpadd from a mostly unresisting hand. "Thats Corporal Burnetts history" Rangi began. "Yes..I see that" Scott replied turning the padd and glancing down at it." I'll complete it." "I 'am' tired" she said. "You're right." Scott nodded, thinking that she must be for her to agree so easily. "Have a few hours sleep." he said "Maikai is here ..Mercedes will be back soon...we're fine..dont worry." Rangi half turned and looked around the crowded sickbay.Glancing back to the AMO she was about to speak but he forestalled her. "If theres any problem at all I'll call you." he said, pre-empting her request. "Ok...I'll be back in two hours then." "Make it four" Scott said and smiled, glad that she agreed without argument. "Four then" Rangi smiled back, secretly thinking of the eight hours that Shane had ordered. ** Somewhere in a Jefferies Tube near Deck 2 ** {I feel like a trained rat in a maze!} Rangi thought as she crawled along on hands and knees. {I cant believe in this day and age they cant come up with something better than this!} She shook her head then smiled ruefully at her own evil thoughts. She had asked hopefully on deck 9 if the turbo lifts were working yet. The reply had been 'No..but they are between 7 and 6' This happy news had proved to be false and so Rangi had crawled along tubes and climbed ladders all the way up to her present position of nearing deck 2 and her quarters. She had begun to appreciate first hand the damage that Chimera had taken, having to detour from her direct route several times and squeeze past groups of engineers who seemed to have sprung out of the bulkheads. Her thoughts inevitably turned back to sickbay and the patients there. Broken bones...burns, some severe... sprains... concussions... smoke inhalation...other serious injuries and then the casualties from astrometrics, which, by all accounts was now non existent. She rounded a junction, checked her direction and set off again, this time thinking about Jack Walsh. {Discharging himself...oh 'very' clever...not your most sensible decision Capt!} she thought seeing a mental vision of the Marine Captains sardonic smile. { Well... he's in for a nasty shock.I hope he's sensible enough to at least get painkillers when he needs them...though he'll probably think he'll get hauled back to his bed if he shows his face in sickbay. Too true he will!!...but.....no doubt he'll end up in collapse and cause himself and us more problems!!} she added the thought in an 'I know its inevitable' tone. {He thinks he's indespensible..} She stood up and took hold of the next ladder, looking up and beginning to climb. {To be honest though...dont we all think that?..doesnt every department head think the ship cant run without them?} She remembered her own thought to Scotts suggestion of four hours sleep....and Shanes 'order' to take eight...and climbed steadily, choosing to push away the thought that she intended to 'disobey' it. Turning into the last tube, her thoughts changed. {A nice longshower..clean clothes but most of all a sleep} she promised herself and nearing the hatch at last, speeded up her crawl, emerged into the corridor and found herself face to face with a security guard. "Identify yourself!" he said in his best guard like manner. "LtCmdr Summers...CMO..acting XO?" she replied, knowing full well he recognised her. "Ma'am" he replied and stood aside. Rangi hoisted her bag onto her shoulder and set off along the corridor, passing an engineer busily working on a terminal. Arriving at her door, Rangi tapped in her access code, already projecting herself into a soapy shower and soft bed. Nothing happened. She looked blankly at the door and retapped the six digits that should set it smoothly sliding open. "Excuse me ma'am?" Looking to her left, she noticed the engineer walking towards her. "The system's down at the moment ma'am..slight damage there" he pointed over his shoulder towards the open terminal "... but I'll have it fixed shortly" {Ohhh great!!} she thought {Locked out!!} "There are some guest rooms accessible in section 4." he told her helpfully."....with working water showers...and a replicator." he added glancing at her shabby uniform. "Thankyou ensign." "Ma'am." he returned to his work and Rangi moved off in the opposite direction. **Twenty minutes later ** Rangi turned her head into the soft pillow. "Mmmmm" she murmured and sighed softly. The guestroom had proved to be small and sparsley furnished but it offered a peaceful haven for sleeping. The shower was another matter. Rangi had selected 5...the setting she always used in her own shower.. a warm and relaxing temperature. She found herself instead in an ice-cold fine spray that caused her to squeal in dismay and slap her hand on the off button. A second attempt had resulted in intermittent gushes from the shower head. Her daydream of a relaxing bubble-filled ten minutes disappeared fast along with the lukewarm water. But now she lay in the bed, comfortable and warm at last. Her hand slid slowly from the pillow to the edge of the bed, her breathing slowed her body relaxed and she drifted fathoms deep into deep dreamless sleep. *** End Log *** LtCmdr Rangi Summers CMO/AXO USS Chimera & Ltjg Scott Fisher AMO USS Chimera Engineer and Security guard (npcs)Rangi
