*** Deck 5 * USS Chimera *** The battle had taken its toll on the Chimera, equipment and engineers were spread out to all the decks but everybody was doing what they could to get the ship back into working order. Petty Officer Varaan and his small team had been given the task of getting the Sickbay back into some kind of working order. With the hull breach on the deck being taken care of, Sickbay was of vital importance as there were alot of injured from the attack. Rangi walked along the main corridor of Deck 5 on her way to Sickbay. A working turbo lift, though somewhat slower than usual, had made the journey relatively easy.Debris and destruction were evident everywhere she looked and Rangis apprehension grew with each step as she approached Sickbays main door. Varaan climbed down from the bio bed that he was standing on in order to seal the manifold. It appeared to be repaired and logic dictated that main power should have reactivated but for a number of seconds nothing happened and the room was still illuminated by the red glow of the backup lights. Varaan placed a foot onto the bed with the intention of opening up the system again but it turned out that it was not need, as he did this action. "Oh...my...word." Rangi whispered to herself as she looked into Sickbay. Very little of it was recognisable as a Sickbay at all. She turned her head slowly from right to left, taking in the devasting scene of her department.Biobeds had been ripped from their positions, the over head sensor cluster was smashed into thousands of pieces that covered the floor along with other debris from the labs. There didnt appear to be one functional piece of equipment in the entire room. She stepped inside and saw an engineer look round. "Does anything work?" she asked him still surveying the wreckage. Varaan turned to see the chief medical officer. Raising his left eyebrow before continuing, “Indeed, I have just restored to main power. The LCAS system is functioning correctly. My team will also be repairing any essential pieces of equipment.” Varaan could see the look of concern on the Doctors face, “I could provide you with a full damage assessment if you require one?” "I dont think that will be necessary..thankyou" Rangi looked at the tall Vulcan and his inscrutable face."I was hoping to get back in here. " She shrugged and glanced towards her office then back at him. "How long do you think repairs will take?" She looked past him towards the main ICU bed. "I really need to get back in here." she added with a frown. Varaan looked around at his team hard at work before returning his attention to Chief Medical officer. "It is difficult to speculate on the exact time frame. However my best ‘guess,’ would be that most major repairs should be completed within a three hour time period, with other repairs continuing throughout the day. You of course can start treating people when ever you feel that the sickbay is at a suitable standard but my team will stay here." "Three hours?" Rangi snapped her attention back to the engineer whose expression implied that he wondered why she doubted him.She looked at him speculatively."Well I need the ICU bed definately" She took a pace away from him, quickly looking around." The overhead cluster...I MUST have that." she added stressing the word and remeeting his eyes. She took another two steps." I need working stations..at least two of them...I can manage with a couple of biobeds out of action...but not for long!" She turned to face her office."That can wait." she said considering it "..and the lab.too...for a while...but....." she faced Varaan. "Realistically...three hours? dont you think thats being a bit over optimistic?" Varaan again raised his left eyebrow, something which his parents had always found puzzling considering that he was right handed. "Ma’am? It is not in my nature to be optimistic. One of the reasons that engineers are selected for the SSF is due to their ability to repair system in combat situations that have sustained battle damage. My team will have high priority systems and equipment repaired within three hours." Varaan glanced around the department. Rangis expression was sceptical as she looked up into the thin Vulcan face but when it looked down at her, she smiled weakly and said " Well..if you say so." She saw the eyebrow rise again. "So...the sensor cluster..the ICU bed..biobeds" she ticked the items off on her fingers "..and I'll leave it to you then " she finished, thinking it might be best not to list her requirements to an engineer. “Thank you ma’am, as long as we do not have another attack the sickbay should be operational soon.” The comment was meant as a joke, but clearly it did not come across as one. Varaan had found it difficult to use humour, but at certain moments he attempted to use it with different degrees of success. “Ma’am if I have your approval? The chances of me meeting the deadline are dramatically increased if I continue with the repairs” Rangi, uncertain if the Vulcan was serious or not, decided that he was and nodded . "Ofcourse" she replied and moved a step back. "I'll just check in my office.." she said and felt that someone watched her as she walked towards the small room. At the door way she glanced back and saw he had returned to work. She stepped inside her office, the sound of crunching glass under foot as she did so. {At least I can salvage some of this} she thought and crossed to her desk. A glint of silver caught her eye and she bent to pick up a small object, partly hidden under other fallen objects. {At least one things unbroken} she thought and smiled at the holograph in her hand. *** End Log *** LtCmdr Summers CMO/AXO USS Chimera & P/O Varaan Engineer (npc) 2nd Lt Mcknight
