====== Bridge, USS Chimera =====
After his 6 hour sleep, Shane felt quite fresh at the moment. Sure, he would love to sleep few more hours, but this luxury was not within his grasp this time. Now he was entering the bridge a bit exciting to see the progress of the reparations.
He stepped out the turbolift and looked slowly around. A slight smile appeared on his lips as he saw that the main screen was functional again. There were only distant stars and the most outher planet of the kzenti system visible, but comparing to the situation after the battle ... it was a clear improvement. Shane noded with some satisfaction when noticing that there were virtually no debrises present. The bridge was clean, like there would never a battle happened. Slowly he walked around the bridge, inspecting the various consoles. Again, he was gladly surprised that the engineering teams managed to repair more then a half of them. Tactical, Ops, Helm, Engineering and Science consoles were operational and manned.
All five officers present looked at Shane expecting his judgement about the state of the bridge. No doubt, all of them did their share of work and now were waiting for the Captain's words. Shane had to smile to himself, how could he let them down? "Well done i must say" he started, "to be honest I am nice suprised about the work done here". He could see relaxation in their faces. {I wonder how often Athena uses tuch tricks ...}
Shane turned to LT. Foster who was like always manning OPS during the alpha shift. "Whats the lastest report from Engineering about the reparations?" he asked coming two more steps closer to the young LT.
Making a boring impression, but fast in tapping, Foster replied in less then two seconds, reading from his consle screen: "Life support 95%, shields 40% provided by the lover shields generators, one forward phaser array and three torpedo launchers operational, one quarter of impulse speed, short range scanners with 56% efficiency, no long range scanners, short range communication operational but no subspace communication, trasporter room 2 operational." Foster looked up at Shane not sure if the Commander was interested in secondary systems. Getting no reply from Shane, Foster continued: "Lifts are working on some scetions on deck 1 to 4, 7 to 13, sickbay should be operational in one hour. Replicator netwok functional on 75%, Shuttle bay one opearional, secondary coputer core operational"
Now was Shane satisfied and noded: "Thank you Mr. Foster". Making a step more, Shane sat himself in his seat and tapped the little armchair console: "Guzman to engineering"
+TAPS+ Ensign Alshain here, commander
"Where is Lieutenant Idrani Ensign?" Shane asked a bit surpised that the blue-ish DCEO isnt asnwering his call.
+TAPS+ Lieutenant Idrani was not feeling well and he in in the temporary sickbay
That was no good news. Shane knew Idrani only for a while, but teh impression he's got about the Andorian was that he would go for a medical treatment only when it was dammed serious. He made a mental note to ask Rangi about him.
"All right Ensign. I wanted to ask about impulse engines. I'd like to move on, what power can you give me?"
+TAPS+ One third for two hours or one quarter without time limitations, sir.
Shane noded to himself. "We'll make it one quarter then ensign, please watch the engines, playing the sitting duch for an another 8 hours is not a sport i would fancy"
+TAPS+ Understood sir.
Shane wondered a bit about the laconic replies from the AEO, but figuring that the female ensign was surely not much used to peak with the ACO, he dismissed the thought for the time beeing.
"Mr. York, set the course to the Kzenti homewold with one quarter impulse." he said to the helmsman in the front part on the bridge.
The young LT. tapped his console for a moment before replying: "Course set, one quarter impulse. ETA 56 minutes".
"Engage" Shane said and watched as the mighty (but still quite beaten) SSF ship finally moved after 8 hours beeing dead in teh waters. Even if slow, they were moving what was a definitely improvement comparing the last 8 hours.
Shane felt that the time for diplomatics was at hand, but still not immediate. He did not expect any important conversations over the com channel, mosty a formal wellcome. But still, the first impression was always an important one and this first impression could prove itself as quite an important one.
Shane tapped his console again: "Counselor Wellingtion and consul Guzman, please report to the bridge in 40 Minutes." he ordered.
===== 55 Minutes later =====
Shane's diplomatic aid was now present on the bridge. Athena in the XO's seat and Martin behind the couple, behind the ATAC console. The little journey to the Kzenti homeworld passed without any events, no other ship attacked the Chimera or tried to stop them. A reason for concern was the fact that all the planets in the Kzenti system were rich on some ore that interfered with teh ship's sensors. Adding the limited efficiency the sensors were working with, the Chimera was virtually blind. The only type of sensors that were not affected were those operating with normal 'see' spectrum ... like the main viewscreen.
"Sir" LT. York started: "we are nearing the orbit of the Kzenti homeworld. We will reach the high orbit in one minute".
Suddenly a faint sound announcing troubles bleeped on Acheson's TAC console. He tapped his console for a moment before saying: "Sir, I am picking the signature of a Romulan Warbird, its 30.000 km away in front of us." Acheson tapped his console again: "I am reading heavy damage on that Warbird, but its weapons are charged".
{Jesus! Not again!} Shane thought. He jumped up from his seat and called: "Red alert, raise shields and hail the Warbird, all man to battle stations!"
