Once prompted, he walked in. "Lieutenant Kirkland reporting, sir!" he called out, in a voice that wasn't marine-like and had the indication that it was created by mustering a substantial amount of discipline. Shane was just about leave the ready room to prepare himself for the away team when the door chime announced someone wanting to speak with him. Not much happy about the dealy Shane asked the one behind the door to come in. Shane was a bit surprised about this officer. It was not common that an junior officer seeked the ACO and even less one Shane doesnt recognize from reports. Good or bad ... names appearing on reports came from time to time to the ACO, but not Kirkland. "Nice to meet you Lieutenant, how can i help you?" Shane asked. "Commander, I understand you are taking an away mission for diplomatic reasons. I was wanting to talk to you about the planned extraction procedures if the away mission goes foul. What sort of interference are we facing here? Shane looked at the yellow colared officer. There were no LTs in the ODA, so this man had to be tactical, Ops or engineering. But Shane could not put him in any of this departments, so he had to ask. "Excuse me Lieutenant, but I dont think we have met before. Whats your position?" Shane asked. Aye, a CO was a bit supposed to know his crew ... but among other things, this was an ability Shane lacked. "Uhhh, right." he smiled. Engineers were not very big on interpersonal relations. They tended to prefer computers and machines than actual human contact. Granted it was a stereotype, but Kirkland wasn't exactly an exception. "Sir, I'm Lieutenant Junior Grade Mathew Kirkland, Engineer here. Lieuteant Idrani is apparently out of commission and I've been, more or less, in command there since." Shane noded :"Nice to meet you Lieutenant. I am afraid I dont know half of the crew personally and i have to change that soon. But back to you Lieutenant. I am aware that cause Lt Idrani is out of duty for medical reasons for now, I need someone to take over for him for the time beeing." Shane looked at Mathew: "You think you could handle it?" "Yes, sir" Shane smiled a bit and said: "Well then, from now on I name you Acting DCEO, untill LtJg. Idrani can assume his duties. I trust that the engineering is now in good hands." "Yes, sir!" he smiled, a bit excited. Shane shrugged: "Back to your original question ... Well, to be honest, I havent thought about any special 'procedures' during the away mission. We have been granted safety by the Kzenti goverment and i dont expect any troubles there". Shane grinned a bit: "But well, any ideas you might have are of course of interest to me, so if you have any please inform me ..." "Well, sir, I know they were given transporter transponders incase they need to be extracted, but I was wondering if I could obtain more information about their beam in point, so I could construct a computer simulation. I'd like to have the transporter crew practice various interferences that could prevent an extraction, if the mission becomes violent." Shane shook his head: "No, all we have are the coordinatates the Kzenti transmitted to us. I dont know if or sensors are in the state to be here much of help, but go ahead and scan that area. Dont forget that we are going to an diplomatic meeting, not an hot area. We have been granted safety by the Kzenti goverment and i dont want to do something that might be looked at as an enemy action. So caution in your scans is required." "Understood.
