==== Security office ===
Gary sat at the desk in the main room of the security office. He was
Waiting for Lieutenant Mcknight to show up so they could go over the
information that Gary had gathered. He had been there for some time now.
He had
originally asked the lieutenant to meet him here some time ago, but
apparently in some training bravado, Mcknight received an injury to his
head and had to be checked out in the sickbay.
Since then Gary had received the order form the bridge to take the ODA
to the asteroid field and check out the coordinates where the signal was
coming form. Also in that time he had been able to find a cursory scan
of
the asteroid field and the position of most of the asteroids, at least
of the ones on the perimeter. A detailed scan of the field did not seem
possible for several reasons. First was the fact that while the scan was
made, the ships long range sensors were not at 100 percent. The other
was because the asteroid field seemed to contain small amounts of
duranium, which seemed to cause the results to be suspect. So all they
were sure of
where the positions of the asteroids that were in line of sight of the
chimera and were low in duranium content.
Gary looked over the coordinated and tried to figure out where the
Location of the signal was at exactly. Just then the doors to the
security office opened and Lieutenant Mcknight walked in. Gary set his
pad down and stood
up. "Lieutneant." he said sharply. "I assume you have heard that we have
received a go to head to the asteroid field." he said waiting for
Mcknight to respond.
Michael had just got back from the sickbay were he had his head treated,
getting knocked out by one of his own men was not something he thought
would happen once he made Lieutenant, {I bet they shoot one when you
make Major.} Michael thought before responding. "Yes chief, I have been
informed. We Have got to see were some signal is coming from if I am not
mistaken."
Gary nodded, "Aye sir." he reached down and picked up a pad form the
desk and handed to the lieutenant. The signal is coming form this area
of the asteroid field. Though we cant pin point exactly which asteroid
form this
distance. There seems to be a small amount of duranium ion the field
that is not letting sensors pinpoint the area." Gary sat back down in
the chair and watched as the lieutenant looked over the pad.
"Bloody strange, a signal coming from an asteroid." Michael sat down in
the chair opposite, which Gary was sitting on. "I can't help feeling
that we are walking into an ambush. I want everybody fully armed, We
need to
expect the worst."
Gary nodded. "Well something does not seem right about this. And if we
are ambushed we might be in a would of hurt." Gary added. He watched as
the lieutenant looked at Gary with a puzzled look. "Sir we only have one
shuttle
available to us at the moment, a type 10. We should be able to fit in
one entire 12 man oda team with eva suits. And if some one decides to
ambush us, we will not have any one watching our six if they do."
"Well I guess we will have to deal with that if the time comes. With any
luck we should be able to handle are self's. We'll will just have to
remember were we parked in case of a quick retreat." Gary nodded. "But
chief, I am not planning to start a war. Make sure the team knows not to
do anything that could be interoperated as aggressive unless we do it
first, that is of course assuming that someone is down there and its not
just an
old probe transmitting." {Who am I kidding, an old probe? No someone or
something is down there.} Michael put the pad back on the table. "Who
would you take for this one chief and how long have we got before we
leave
for the great unknown?"
Gary picked up a pad and looked it over and then looked at the
lieutenant. "Since the order to go out had been given, I have already
requested operations to start prepping the shuttle. It should be ready
in an hour. As
for who to take on the mission, beta team has just finished resting and
Charlie was about to go down for rest. Beta would be my choice." he said
knowing that the beta team was assigned to the lieutenant as his team to
lead.
"Beta, my team. That sounds good with me. I think we should start
getting are gear together, I for one want too personal check my kit. The
last thing I need is a phase Rifle with a dead power cell." Michael
stood up, "I'll meet
up with you and the team in forty in the shuttle bay, if that is okay
with you chief?" Michael knew he was the officer, but only a fool
wouldn't listen to someone who has as much experience as Gary.
Gary nodded, "Aye sir. Forty minutes I will notify your team. I will
also coordinate with operations for the shuttle launch and flight plan."
The lieutenant stood up and nodded, he then turned and headed out of the
door to the security office. Gary watched as the doors closed behind the
lieutenant. He wondered how the younger officer would fair taking the
team out. Gary had the luxury of not being the primary person in charge,
at lease not when an officer about, but he still prepared as if he was
the one responsible for every life on the mission.
Gary looked back down at the pads in front of him and picked up the one
with the asteroid data. He then punched up a sensor map of the
surrounding area, including the romulan ship and all known Kzenti Ships
and installations. In the part of the sensor map was something new to
him. He looked closer and realized the scans of the area had recently
been updated. Gary set his pad down and tappe don the console and zoomed
in on the new blip. With a few skillful keystrokes he pulled up the
information. {Wlell I see the science offier has been busy.} he though
as he read ove the up to date information. Aparently the science officer
had been able to get the sensors running to a good enough efficiency as
to compensate for the duranium in the asteroid field. Now they actualy
knew what they were looking for, a research station. {Wel this might
complicate things, after all we are here on their request, and now we go
snooping around. We should probably be careful how we pull this one off
just to make sure it does not like we are trying to be aggressive, too
much. The last thing I would want to see is the oda team setting off
some intergalactic incident.} he thought. What Gary found interesting is
the fact that the scanns, or signals that seemed to emanate from the
asteroid and towards the ship were not only made to resemble the sensor
sweeps of either the romulans, or the federation, but they also
resembled brain waves. {Brain waves? What are they up to? Telepathy?} he
thought. {Must point this out to the lieutenant when I meet him in the
shuttle bay.} he thought as he made mental note of the information.
Gary then tapped on his comm badge. "Petty Officer Willaims to
operations." He chirped. "Lieutenant Foster here petty officer, how can
I help you." Came the reply. "Lieutenant, I could you're your assistance
in developing a flight plan for the oda team that is heading to the
asteroid field. I see that the chief science officer has pinpointed
where we need to investigate.Could you chart us the best course to the
asteroid field leaving us as un-noticed as possible? And a flight path
that if discovered we could explain our mis-placement as simple being
lost?" Gary asked. There was a slight pause. "Very well petty officer. I
will have the flight plan downloaded in to the shuttle before you
depart." He said in a short and concise way, with a hint of annoyance.
"Thank you lieutenant. Petty officer Williams out."
Confident that the operations officer would guide them to there asteroid
with accuracy and with as much stealth as possible, Gary downloaded the
latest infromation for the science department, grabbed the pad off of
the desk with and headed to he locker to get suited up.
