=== Gary's personal quarters ===
Gary finished dressing in his combat uniform. It was a black jump suit
with red piping around the collar where his petty officer rank was. It
had several cargo pockets, plenty of room to store pads, and other items
needed to manage the away mission to the asteroid. Though the Vulcan
Chief science officer and her department had located the facility
emitting the signal. They still had little information about it. In
Gary's mind they still had to anticipate a eva, so he forgo the bulky
chest plate of armor and only fastened on the webbing to attach
grenades, and other useful combat items.
Gary was not a fan of the armor. To him it was bulky and slowed him
down. It always seemed to restrict his movement, and in his mind, in
close quarters combat, you are better off being nimble than expecting to
take a hit. After securing his type two phaser he was allowed to keep in
his room, he looked about. The room was still in a shambles after the
breach on the deck 5. He had been so busy with coordinating the shifts
for rotation and down time, and researching the data coming in form
every department about their destination, he had little time to sleep
let alone clean up.
Gary walked out of his quarters and down the corridor to the turbo lift,
he passed the sick bay. He always wondered why of all places he had to
be located, why so close to where most people don't want to go.
{Probably the only quarters left.} He though to himself. As he glanced
at the closed doors of the sickbay, he heard a muffled noise. Gary
stopped at the strange sound. He stepped closer to the door and turned
one ear to it and listened carefully. He strained his ears, trying to
make out the repeated sounds coming from behind the door. After a few
seconds it dawned on what he was listening to. Gary's eyes widened and
he tapped on his comm badge. "Williams to security. Send a detail to
sickbay at once!" he barked out. "Right away Petty officer!" came the
reply.
Gary then headed to the door. As the doors opened he saw a teal clad man
fly backward past the door. {Right. Some one is not happy with there
treatment. I wonder what vampire has caused the commotion.} He thought.
Gary took another few steps in to the sick bay, expecting to see some
irate crewmember unhappy about being poked and prodded. To his surprise
he saw a pointy eared, green blooded Romulan repeatedly kicking
Commander Guzman and tussling with his brother, Martin, the counsul.
"What the!" Gary mouthed, not saying a word and in somewhat of a shock
to see a Romulan in the sick bay, of all places. Gate quickly reached
for his type two phaser and pointed it at the Romulan. With Fatigue
setting in, Gary's eyes crossed as he aimed at the Romulan. {Oh for
Christ's sake! Now there are two of them!} He thought. Seeing the
Romulans now turning their attention to Martin, Gary took a shot. The
blast sped right through one of the two apparitions, scorching the wall,
leaving both still mirroring one another.
The Romulan stopped and looked at Gary. {Oh shit! Missed!} He though.
With his free hand, Gary reached up and rubbed his eyes. He then leveled
the phaser on the Romulan again, there were still two. Gary took another
pot shot, this time at the one on the right. Once again the phaser blast
only marred the wall. Now the Romulan was on the move. Most likely he
decided that Gary could not hit the side of the preverbal barn and his
best chance was to rush Gary and steal the Phaser away form him. Gary,
Now totally cheese that he missed, twice. Closed his left eye and
leveled the pahser once again. Now there was only one. With inches to
spare, Gary fired the phaser, just as the Romulan was about to grab the
phaser.
Gary fell backwards to the floor, the Romulan lying on top of him. Gary
could feel the warm muzzle f the type II phaser against his belly, the
phaser wedged firmly between the two of them. After a deep breath of
relief, Gary started to struggle to get out from beneath of the Romulan.
Just then the door of sick bay opened and two oda stepped in with
weapons drawn.
Gary coughed, "Down here". He looked up at the tow oda personnel. The
two oda members smiled as they slowly approached Gary. "Was this your
first date?" one of them chuckled. "Very funny corporal. Now if you
would be so kind, GET HIM OFF OF ME!" he barked. The two crewmen
holstered their phasers and reached down and grabbed the Romulan by the
armpits. As the heaved the Romulan up, the specialist looked back to
where Shane now laid balled up on the floor. He then noticed the two
scorch marks on the wall.
The specialist looked back at Gary as he sat up form the floor. "Having
a little trouble shooting there Tex?" he smiled. Gary stood up form the
floor and smiled at the specialist. "Naw. The first one was a warning
shot, the second was to give him a sporting chance." The specialist
shook his head in a chuckle. Gary pointed to the door. "Take him to the
brig and post a guard. I am I sure some one will want to interrogate him
once he wakes up.
The two oda members nodded and acknowledged the command and turned and
headed out. Gary then looked back at the sick bay and Doctor Summers,
who was not checking out Commander Guzman and his brother. Rangi looked
up at Gary and asked, "Are you alright petty officer?" Gary nodded, "A
little dusty, but nothing to worry about." He smiled. He then pointed to
the door; "Well I think you can handle things form here doctor. If you
will excuse me I have to go." Rangi nodded and returned her attention to
Shane. With out another look around, Gary headed out of sickbay and down
to the security office.
