==Captains Quarters ==
Keylor sat behind his desk going over the report he had just written about
the research station and the events that had unfolded there. It had taken 36
hours of negation and persuading to convince the Inwon that the scientists'
experiments were not a prelude to invasion or war, but simply an accidental
event. The Inwon were very leery of Keylor's negation but in the end he had
promise them that the station, and all of its research would be discontinued
and incursion in to their subspace would cease. At least that is what he
wrote in his report.
Keylor thought about what star fleet would say to his negations. They would
probably agree that his promises were justified for the moment, but they
would simply move the research station to a different location and continue
the experiments under greater scrutiny elsewhere. But the Inwon were safely
returned to their region of sub space, the station data had been retrieved
and sent to command, and the scientists were left on the base to await star
fleets decision.
Keylor counted this mission as a win. After a dismal start to Keylor's
command, with the problems in space dock, then the considerable damage on
their second mission, This mission at least saw the Chimera not having to
put in for repairs. He was beginning to fear that SSF command would start to
have a tow ship standing by a few light years away form the chimera, just
incase they had any more problems. The loss of life had been minimized as
well. The latest report form Dr Summers had every effected crew man
recovering and expected to return to duty in a matter of weeks. The only
losses of life were the 5 or so scientists that they were unable to rescue
before they met their untimely demise.
Keylor, confidant in his report, signed it and sent it off to be sent with
the next batch of encrypted communications to command. He then turned his
attention to the more mundane work of his day.
Since having left the system were the research station had been, they were
able to power up the ships warp core and return the ship to complete
functional status. All systems had been checked and double checked and they
were speeding off to their next destination. In their first bust of
communication traffic form SF command, they had been instructed to travel to
Space Station Kinsi to pick up a few new crew members.
Kinsi was more of an outpost space station, placed in a sector of unclaimed
space bordered by the cardassian union and the federation. It was a small
base, half the size of the mir class SB aurora that Keylor had become
accustomed to so many years ago. Their orders were to dock at Kinsi, take on
new crew and wait for further orders. It puzzled Keylor why he would have to
wait for orders, in the past he would receive a new mission almost
immediately after completing another. Sometimes those orders were to simple
fly about some sector of space counting the asteroids, simply keeping the
ship busy. But this time there were no such orders. Keylor did not want to
let his mind wander too much, but he could not help to think that some thing
was up, and he was not being told what.Keylor sent the medical records of
the new crew down to sickbay.
Rising from his chair he shrugged off the speculation. {At least it would be
a chance for the crew to relax for a while. With so many new crewmen coming
on board it would be a great opportunity for everyone to get to know each
other personally before being thrown back in to the heat of battle.} Keylor
walked over to the replicator and ordered up a coffee and a small hasperat.
He retrieved his little meal and returned to his desk.
After sitting down and settling in to his desk once again, Keylor took a
small bite of his hasperate and started looking back over the mountain of
reports that seemed to pile up in the short time he was on the station. He
started thumbing down the list f reports, forms, requests and what have you
that poured in to the captain of a ship. Skipping past the personal requests
such as having pets on board, requests for terrariums for cultivation
recreation and things of the like, Keylor stopped on the first of many
reports that he dreaded to have to read, personnel evaluations.
It was not that he hated having to do personnel evaluation; it was just that
some people on the ship tended to be tremendously long winded in their
appraisals of the crew. Of these was Lt.Cmdr Guzman. He of all seemed to
elaborate on every little aspect of each crew member. Now detail is a
wonderful thing, but Keylor had a hard time keeping his interest in to a
evaluation that read more like cooking instruction than it did in a general
overview of the person in question. Keylor preferred it short, sweet and to
the point. Keylor took another bit of his hasperate and started browsing
though the reports.
After 2 hours of non-stop reading, Keylor finally reached the end of the
evaluations. His plate of Hasperate had long since been devoured and his
coffee now sat half full and cold form neglect. He grabbed a padd and
started to jot down some notes. In all of the reports several of the crew
were deserving of promotion. For some the promotion would be long over due.
Keylor figured that a athering at Kinsi, in one of the larger conference
rooms might be a good idea to start off their little slice of down time
while star fleet decided what to do with them.
After writing down several notes, including the number of people being
promoted, Keylor decided this was a job best suited for the ships counselor.
Keylor had recalled how well the costume party had gone so long ago and
figured this would be a good way for Athena to get back in to the swing of
things. Standing up form his chair, Keylor ignored his dirty dishes sitting
on is desk, grabbed the pad and then headed out of his quarters to find
Athena to give her this little chore.
