===Kzenti Facility, Location Unsure==
Gary struggled to his knees, firing his weapon in rapid succession.
Nothing they seemed to stop the biomechanical species very much. Their
phasers seemed to be nothing more than a nuisance to the Kzenti, like
mosquitoes in a swamp, annoying but nothing that would stop you from
your task at hand. As Gary fired One Kzenti got really close, two close.
Now at point blank range, Gary was firing at the back of one Kzenti who
had focused on Cortez.
Gary watched helplessly as the Kzenti Picked Cortez up and tossed him
like a rag doll down the hall. {What will stop these creatures?} Gary
wondered as he emptied him phaser rifle on the Kzenti soldier. Now the
Kzenti turned his attention to Gary. Gary pushes him self to his feet,
empty phaser rifle in hand. With no time to reload the power cell, He
started to swing the but end of the rifle at the Kzenti, hoping to
strike a blow in what still appeared to be a mostly humanoid skull. But
his attempt was futile as the Kzenti blocked the rifle with one arm and
snapped it in to two with the other.
Gary was in sheer amazement. He knew that a federation phaser rifle was
highly durable and could withstand a 300-pound humanoid standing on it
for several minutes before it would even bend, let alone break. The
Kzenti was obviously strong and armored to accomplish such a feat as to
break a rifle.
Before he knew it, Gary was gasping for air as the Kzenti grabbed him by
the throat and tossed him backward across the hall. Gary hit the far
sidewall hard, like falling out of a hover car at 10 kilometers an hour.
The air pushed its way out of his lungs and Gary slid down the wall, to
the floor gasping for air. After a minute of trying to regain the use of
his lungs, Gary felt a sharp pain in his lower right chest. As each new
breath entered his lungs, Gary struggled to cope with the pain. He
figured that now he had a cracked rib.
Injured or no, he had to continue fighting, even though the oda
outnumbered the Kzenti 5 to 2, they were apparently loosing. As Gary
shook the concussion of hitting the wall off he looked around him to
find a weapon. On the floor next to him was his type two phaser. It had
come loose form the holster when he hit the wall. Still in a bit of a
daze he picked it up and continued to look around.
Also on the floor were his combat tricorder, a pad and several isolinear
chips. Gary shook the ringing from his ears and the cobwebs form his
mind. He then remembered grabbing a hand full of isolinear chips form
the armory, the ones used incase combat with the Borg was eminent. Gary
looked around. To his right, the two Kzenti Soldiers were not pummeling
the remaining 3 oda members near a door at the end of the hall. To his
left, he saw Cortez slowly advancing from where the Kzenti had placed
him only moments before. {Well it is worth a shot. If they have a
similar personal shield set up like the Borg, the rotating phaser
frequency might have more effect on them.} He thought
Still a bit foggy in the brain, and apparently no threat to the Kzenti,
Gary continued to sit on the floor. Taking shallow breaths patted the
floor, trying to grab one of the chips with one hand while he tried to
open the access panel on the type II phaser with the other. Soon he had
a chip in one hand and used both the pop open the access panel. With no
time to spare, he reached in to the phaser and pulled out an isolinear
chip and tossed it aside. Then he tried to jam the new chip in to the
phaser, it would not fit. Gary pulled it out and tired again. Still the
chip wound not fit. {What the!}He thought. Gary closed his eyes and took
a deep breath. He winced at the pain of his cracked rib. He then looked
back down to the phaser. With a sigh of recognition, he smiled to
himself and turned the chip around 180 degrees. He then gently slid it
in to the phaser, it fit.
Not even taking the time to put the access pannel back on the phaser,
Gary tapped on the interface and activated the phaser. Setting the
phaser at level 5 he looked up to find a target. The two Kzenti were a
meter from him, all he could see were their armor-clad backs. Choosing
the one closest to him. Gary aimed for the center of one of the
soldiers' back, the open furthest away. Gary squeezed the trigger and a
burst of energy pulsed out.
The Kzenti soldier stood upright. For the first time some thing had
actually caught their attention and seemed to cause them some
discomfort. Angrily the Kzenti turned his face noticeable in pain and in
anger. Without hesitation. The kzenti charge Gary. Seeing that the first
shot did little but to anger the Kzenti, Gary looked down and set the
phaser to the highest setting. Holding the phaser in his left hand,
using his right arm to support his ribs, Gary looked up to aim the
phaser.
When Gary looked up, All he could see was a biomechanical arm in his
face. In an instant he was choked again. The strain of his weight
stretched his neck as the Kzenti lifted him up in to the air
effortlessly. Out of one corner of his eye, he noticed Cortez coming to
his rescue. In a last ditch effort to remain conscious, Gary flung the
type II phaser in Cortez's direction, hoping that he would see the
modification and use it.
Then all of a sudden Gary felt weightless and his neck seemed to be
released from the Kzenti grasp. But the sensation did not last long as
he cam crashing in to the door down the hall where the other three oda
members now lay beaten. The door echoed with a reverberating "thud".
Gary slid down the door, finally resting on the floor. Gary had his bell
rung, loud. And was hoping that everything would end soon. As the room
seemed to spin, and his vision blurred in and out, he could make out the
distance sound of a mechanical device activating, it was the door. With
a almost unnoticeable hiss, the door opened up and Gary slumped
backwards in to the room. Still dazed, he could see two more Kzenti
standing at a console, looking at Gary with some surprise. With
everything upside down, Gary looked back in to the room, searching for
the vent that Jack and the other oda members were to come through. {OK
Captain you are coming, now is the time.} He thought as his eyes rolled
back in to his head.
