"Oh, it's warm" said the professor, before the music kicked in and the credits started to appear while the camera followed the eagle as it soared over a a sunlit rivervalley. Aidan turned the screen of and sighed. "Allright" he muttered to himself and turned back to his workbench. Between the incredible amount of blueprints and rubbish, his experiment laid in the middle, a mess of circuits, sensors and halfmounted casings. "I'm so sure it's doable, but how do I place the emitters so they don't interfere with them bloody sensor readings..." he continued to mutter while placing an augmentation screen in front of his eyes. During the last days he had not been able to work on his gadget, and he was very annoyed of how the ODA used to treat their equipment. Granted, it wasn't too easy to take care of a tricorder during a phaser shootout, but still, there was no need of using it as shield, as one of the ODA had doing judging by it's appearance. Of course, many of the components could be replicated, but Aidan was old-school, and the assembly of the parts was something he preferred to do himself. "Allright, ya bastard, let's see if I doubleswitch the range-sensor to this thingie here, and then..." his hands followed the microcircuitry with the precision of a surgeon, while he muttered, "... let's connect this whatsitsname to emitter 4c... easy... easy, there ya go laddie, wasn't that hard now, was it?" he finished with a triumphant smile and looked up. With great care he placed the casing over the circuit and connected the krelium battery. "Computer, force field three and four, if you please" he spoke out loud without looking up. A short beep confirmed his order at the same time, as a blueish hue covered his workbench. "There goes nothing" Aidan muttered and activated the battery. An almost unperceptible hum signaled the power transfer to the gadget. Aidans smile widened. "Gotcha, me ladd, now let's turn on the emitters..." his hands feverishly ran through the screen in front of him while his face face showed expectation. A tiny lad started to blink on the gadget while the hum increased a bit. Suddenly a continous, shrill beep burst through the room, piercing Aidans ears. Quickly he entered several commands to his console, but the beep continued. "Oh sh.." he managed to say before the explosion and a green cloud of smoke covered in seconds his bench, contained by the force field. "Crap" commented Aidan dissapointed and took his time till the computer finished changing the air inside the field. "Back to the square one it is." he added and disconnected the force field. Then he stood up and left the room. <<Thought I get a bit technical to get back in track>> Spc. Aidan Lynch Lost Link of the ODA Eng. Force
