Admittedly, Bragg was one of the most boring Starbases Aidan had ever
been. Few shops here and there, two or three bars, a couple of fancy
restaurants and that was about it. Still, Aidan liked this station for
one reason. On one of the upper decks, just near the the maintenance
elevators, there was a small, almost forgotten shop, yet one of the
most visited by freaks like him. The owner was an equally small,
forgetible character named Trazz, and his metier was a pretty odd one
for a High Clearance Base as this one. He traded with unusual
technology, nothing serious, just little things that somehow showed up
on the shelves of his store. Some, like Aidan, knew, that most of them
were curiousities brought by other SSF officers from their various
journeys to the most unlikely places. Thinking back of what happened
during the Kzenti mission, Aidan was pretty sure Trazz would've loved
to get his hands on some of the things they've seen, which pretty much
explained the nature of his shop.
"T, ye ole scumbag, how've ye bin" he shout out after crossing the
doorstep. Trazz turned around hastily and glanced at him over the rim
of some weird glasses he was wearing.
"Mr. Lynch, so nice to see you around again. I've heard you've had
quiet an interesting trip, if I'm allowed to say so." he finally
answered with a tired smile.
"I'll never figure out how ye know these things, but yup, you could
say so." Aidan replied grinning.
"Well, news travel, my dear Lynch. Makes me wonder if you got any
souvenir you'd like to share." Trazz countered somewhat quizzically.
Aidan looked around. "Not this time, mate. As a matter of fact, I need
a little of your expertise, if ye don't mind."
Trazz stepped over and sat on a worn chair in front of a beaten down
terminal. Aidan knew that it was all appearance, the modifications
Trazz had made into his terminal were a mystery to all of his
customers, but they showed to be quiet impressive as it allowed access
to some rather dark areas. "I see" muttered Trazz, "and how, pray, may
my humble person be of any help to a fine man as yourself today?" he
added smiling gently.
Aidan was already used to his flourish way of speaking so he paid
little attention to the exaggerated kindness. "Right ladd, I've got
this... thing I'm working on, and there seems to be a problem with the
power supply. A tricorder unit is too weak and a phaser unit doesn't
seem to have a compatible energy signature. I've tried several less
conventional power supplies, including a modified Krelium battery, but
i can't seem to achieve the right pulse frequency. I think I'm gonna
need something stronger, but controlled enough to allow some serious
finetuning. And it should not interfere with holo-emissions. Any
ideas?"
Trazz joined his hands in front of his face and remained silent for a while.
"There are some pretty standard solutions to your problems, Mr. Lynch,
you wouldn't have come to me if that was all, am I correct?" he
finally said, looking up.
"Weeeell, yes." grinned Aidan. "It has to be very small and... sutil
enough not to mess with a sublight and FTL data stream. And I'm
talking bout major information broadcast on a very small bandstream."
"Hmmm" Trazz returned to his prior position. "As in sensor reading
outputs with crossreference to other, maybe external databases?" he
inquired.
"Something in that direction, yep." replied Aidan.
"Tricky" concluded Trazz and stood up. "I might have a thing or two
that should allow the needed results, but I will need time to check my
resources. Can you come back tomorrow?"
"Whatever ye say, T" Aidan nodded with a smile and shook his hand.
"I'll be seein ye then, mate" he added and left the store.
