MaiKai was holding in her left hand the leash to Kaine. She was
walking next to Stan Pressman smiling on the way to find a good restaurant that
would allow her creature to sit beside her. She didn't find her dog a nuisance
at all. Mai treated him like family, like he was one of her own. The three
walked for a while until they found this grand restaurant that served many
variety of things from many different planets.
Stan walked behind Mai and Kaine as they stepped forward and awaited
to be seated. A waitress came. She smiled at the dog as to say it was ok for
him to be in here and then gave them a seat by one of the windows. MaiKai sat
and pulled the leash down around her wrist so Kaine wouldn't go anywhere
without pulling her along as well. Pressman smiled from across the table, as
Kaine laid at their feet, while they looked over a menu pondering on what to
order.
When the waitress came back around Mai ordered a tall glass of water
and some barbecue chicken with a small salad with ranch dressing glazed over
both the chicken and the salad. She also ordered, strangely, for pineapples in
her salad, but they grew mainly in her home state on Earth so she was happy to
finally receive some. Stan ordered some barbecue ribs and an alcoholic
beverage, probably a beer, and some vegetables to have something healthier to eat
for lunch. It looked like they were more eating dinner, but oh well they were
enjoying the food and the company.
Stan started the conversation, "So, how have you been? I haven't
really seen you a lot since before the away mission you recently came back from,"
he smiled as he picked his drink up to take a swig. "Great ... never better,"
she replied as she took a piece of chicken and threw down on the floor for
Kaine to gnaw at. "Is that so? ... You seem pretty glum," Pressman asked
sincerely as he folded his arms over the table. "Yeah, I'm sure. I just didn't
sleep too good," she nodded as she finished off her salad and took a drink of
water from her glass.
"Oh? How come?", he just wanted to know why Mai seemed distant from
her coworkers all the time and assumed he was her only friend aboard the
Chimera so far. MaiKai sighed as she answered his question, "It was about my
stepbrother. It's the same dream over and over. I was informed that he died a
while ago ... like months ... but since I started out on Aurora and came over to
the Chimera. I haven't really been in touch with anyone back at home. Not
even with anyone that could tell me the whole story about Jeff and be here to ...
just talk some more again before they were to go back home." As if she said
too much, MaiKai picked up her drink and took a big swallow.
Stan nodded and sat back in his seat {No wonder ... maybe she still
grieving ... or maybe she's just concerned or lonely ... either way ... } his
thoughts trailed off as he watched her drink and take a few bites of her
chicken. He ate a few ribs himself and allowed there to be some silence in which she
could redeem herself. "So, is that why you were punching a bag in your
room," he winked at her she jumped a little from the silence awakening. "Oh, I was
just venting off all my frustration and anything that's happened ... You
know? Just to relax and regain what bit of self-control if I had any," MaiKai
replied honestly and smiled while she looked under the table to make sure Kaine
was doing fine.
Feeling full, Stan grabbed her hand," I think a little walk will
revive us more and well ... I think Kaine needs some exercise." He tilted his head
like pointing under the table. She nodded and regain proper hold of the
leash. The three left the restaurant after paying and walked along the place
stopping every bit to sit down and talk or play with Kaine. Mai decided it was
nice to have one good friend aboard you could tell things to.
