After checking in with Lieutenant Kirkland in main engineering, Rick was
told to settle into his quarters and report to duty in two days. Rick wanted
to get to work right away, but this gave him a chance to get to know a few
of his new crewmates either on the ship, or scattered throughout the
starbase.
With his starfleet-issued bag still slung over his right shoulder, Rick
entered the turbolift.
“Deck two,” Rick said before he caught himself. “I mean deck five.”
Deck two was where his father’s quarters were on Captain Rodgers’ ship,
which was Rick’s hone before going to the academy.
“Old habits die hard,” Rick mumbled to himself as the lift began to move.
Shortly thereafter, Rick was deposited on deck five where he walked down the
corridor. He glanced at his datapadd to see which door was the entrance to
his new quarters. While doing so, another crewman walked up to him.
“You new here, sir?” the crewman said, wearing blue on his uniform.
“Yeah,” Rick said. “And this is my first time on an Intrepid-class starship.
My quarters are around here somewhere.”
Rick handed him the datapadd.
“On my way here, I learned as much as I could about the layout of an
Intrepid, but I guess that didn’t include this deck,” Rick continued.
“No sweat, sir,” the crewman said, looking at the padd. “I can show you
where you’re quarters are.”
The crewman took the bag that Rick had carried and walked off down the
corridor. Moments later, they stood outside Rick’s new home.
“Here it is,” the crewman said. “Welcome aboard the Chimera.”
“Thanks,” Rick said. “Let me buy you a drink on the starbase for helping me
out.”
“Not necessary, sir, but I can’t anyhow,” the crewman said, handing Trent
his bag. “I’m suppose to meet some friends on the starbase in a few minutes
and they get a little uncomfortable hanging around officers on their time
off.”
“Understood,” Rick said. “Perhaps later with that drink.”
“OK,” the crewman said before heading back the way they had came.
Rick turned his attention to the door. It swished open and he entered. He
looked around before tossing his bag on his bed. After placing his few
personal belongings in their proper place, Rick felt, and heard his stomach
make a growling noise. So, he left his quarters and made his way to the mess
hall.
