Jack hadn't been on the station for very long, he'd obviously spent a
lot of time at Bragg before and he knew better than most that it
wasn't exactly the party central capital of the federation. Plus, if
you did find yourself a bit of enjoyment it was always likely that
things would spiral out of control, and this place wasn't exactly the
most lenient place for conduct not befitting an officer.
Walking the promenade there really wasn't much going on. Security was
so tight here that any unsavoury characters not linked with the forces
wouldn't have a chance on the station, that wasn't to say that there
weren't a few unsavoury characters about the place, they were just
affiliated with the Forces in one way or another.
Lost in thought he bumped into a passer by, who stopped and turned
almost immediately with ferocious speed, Jack stood fast as he saw
that the man was one other then Specialist Lynch, his engineering
specialist.
"Specialist" Jack stared at him. "Is there a problem?"
"Aye, there would be" replied Lynch, annoyed for a second, but
returning to his usual ways. "if you weren't me boss, that is. Of
course, I should say, sorry to place meself inconveniently in yer
path while ye weren't looking, but that would come out a bit as
arselicking, now wouldn't it." he added amused.
Aidan thought for a second, then added. "I was jus' goin' to get a
drink or two, wanna tag along?"
Jack pondered for a moment. "Count yourself lucky I'm in a somewhat
good mood today Specialist." he replied sharply. "I could use a drink
never the less." he added, moving across the promenade into a bar
called 'Jizm'.
Walsh had often wondered if the man was aware of the alternate meaning
in terran language but every time he had been in here the occasion to
ask
Krim, the owner never seemed appropriate. With Lynch in tow they moved
inside and to a table where a waitress came to take an order.
"I'll have a Scotch, and whatever the Specialist wants."
"The Specialist'll have a scotch too" grinned Aidan. "Interesting
choice for a name if ye ask me. And talking of names, I wouldn't want
to draw everybody's attention by you calling me Specialist all the
time. Almighty will suffice." he nodded with what seemed to be a
gracious gesture. "Or Aidan if ye insist." he added with a smirk.
Jack sneered slightly at the mans audacity, but at the same time he
had to complement him on it. Walsh wasn't by any means a lovely
dovey Commander, he didn't make things easy and he didn't like
people. It took some balls in Jacks eye to sit down and have a
drink with him, purely because it'd be so unpleasant.
"I'll call you whatever I please, Specialist." Jack nodded in reply
as the waitress returned with their drinks. Taking the whisky he
took a sip from it and savoured the taste before swallowing it
down. "What are you looking for on the station then?" Jack
forced out a bit of conversation.
"You certainly can, Major, but don't expect me to share the lasses
with ye when they hear it." Aidan replied amused by his superiors
rudeness. "I'm just enjoying some time off, same as you." he added.
"It's always a good idea to restock my supplies, and Bragg has a certain
... appeal in that particular matter" he downed his shotglass and
waved for the waitress. "Two more of those, m'dear" he told her and
turned back to Walsh.
Jack nodded in reply. "Aye I know, I'm originally from an engineering
background myself, I like to keep myself updated on all the new and
experimental technologies about, and as you say Bragg has a few little
places hidden away."
The Waitress came over and brought them their drinks. "Leave the
Bottle" Jack nodded to her as he took a hold of it himself and poured
his glass to the top before filling up the Specialists shot glass. "So,
How
did you find the last mission, Aidan" Jack emphasised. "I assume it was
your first instance of real fire."
"In a manner of speaking" nodded Aidan, "I've been more on the
development side before this transfer. Seems, some bugger up there
wants me to get some exercise, and I'll tell ya, I got plenty of it
with them Kzenti blokes." he refilled the glasses. "In any case, I've
some serious issues with the equipment. Just not good for me health to
be that exposed as we were, and we can't have that now, can we?"
Jack leant back sipping down some more whisky. "That's how I used
to feel" Jack took another swig. "Call me barbaric but if there's one
thing
I love more than women its the field." Running his fingers through his
hair he yawned slightly. "So, answer me this. What kind of future do
you see for yourself in the Forces?" Jack asked, any insight into the
way a man thought was a welcome one for him, after all you never
knew if he'd be your enemy tomorrow.
"Why, what everyone sees, Major" replied Aidan. "A rebellious
take-over and conquering the universe." he refilled both glasses. "And
just like ye, me life to last long enough for a strong drink after a
battle. Cheers." he lifted his glass.
Aidan was about to down his shot again when a heavy hand fell on his
shoulder. "So you losers come outta the drain every now =B4n then,
dontcha?" he heard a mocking, somewhat blurred voice behind him. He
turned around slowly just to watch a huge green-clothed guy swaying
next to him. Aidans
face grew dangerously affable as he replied. "I take it you're not
inviting me and me mate here to a drink alright?"
Jack pondered a moment, this looked like it was heading towards a
fight, he remembered that General Keylor had asked him before he
promoted Jack to Major. "Have you been in any fights recently?"
No had been Jacks answer.
"Alright, What's your problem mate?" Jack glanced up at the man.
"Isn't with you, pal." replied the marine. "Just can't stand fleeter
trash dirtying my fav bar when I'm on shore." he glanced at
Aidans neck. "And an enlisted wuss on top. If you talk to me, piece o'
trash, make sure to Sir me, do you get me?"
Aidan's smile widened. "Aye, ladd, you got me there. I'll try to be
more respectful when I'm addressing a superior officer, even one with
crap for brains, Sir." he leaned back amused, grabbing the bottle.
"And by the way, I'll make sure ta be most gentle when I smash your
bloody mouth, Sir. I understand that you being completely hammered
doesn't make you much smarter. Sir"
Jack groaned inside, he could see where this was going. Lynch didn't
look
like he was about to back down and the Marine moved forward slightly
in Lynches direction.
"Careful Captain." Jack ordered to him.
The man obviously had no regard for Jacks authority and placed his hand
on
Lynches shoulder. Immediately Aidan turned around standing up in his
seat and
placed a punch straight into the Marine Captains face.
The table flew to the floor and Jack stood immediately as an associate
of the
Marine Captain seemed to advance at Jack. Straight away Walsh expertly
thrust his open palm just below the mans nose, sending him to the floor.
Meanwhile the Captain had managed to stand up, although caught by
surprise, he recovered quickly and grabbed Aidans arm in the middle of
his swing. "Bollocks" swore Aidan under his breath and kicked the
Marine in the groin. With a high-pitched groan, his opponent bent in
two, without loosing the grip on his arm. Aidan felt a sharp pain as
his shoulder articulation was being overbent by the weight of the
Marine. "Let go, for fucks sake." he muttered between his teeth and
followed the Marine captains movement to release the pressure on his
shoulder. Caught offguard, he saw the fist coming right towards his
face and managed in the last second to tilt to a side. The punch
landed on his left ear, leaving Aidan a bit confused. With tremendous
effort, he untwist his arm and grabbed the bottle from the table. A
second punch landed on his stomach, taking every bit of breath out of
his lungs. Aidan swore and used his free arm to swing the bottle
towards the marines head, where it exploded with a loud crash, bathing
both of them in whisky. Both of them landed on the floor in a confused
heap. "Bloody idiot, get off me" muttered Aidan while trying to locate
his opponents face. "I'll rip you apart, asshole" shouted the Marine
and rolled aside. "Give it a shot, mate" answered Aidan and got on his
knees. Too late he realized that the Marine had turned around and was
attempting to tackle him. Aidan swore again and tried to skip the
oncoming mass of a body, but the strained shoulder gave way and he
fell sideways.
Jack looked around to see Aidan on the floor and the marine Captain
pummelling him. Tilting his weight slightly he chopped the front of his
neck and threw him to the floor away from Spec. Lynch. Another marine
came flying over to Jack and punched him square in the face, taking it
Jack turned into the mans punch and headbutted him sending him flying.
Grabbing Lynch from the floor he looked around."Jesus, Do you want to
see Two Bars back on my collar?" he barked.
Aidan turned around and swept the marine back to the floor with a low
kick. "Sorry Sir" he replied backing out of the marines reach, his
shoulder hurting like hell. "Wouldn't want to see ye cleaning toilets
with me, if ye take my meaning." With a swift movie he evaded the
Marines charge, only to leave Jack exposed. "Ooops" he managed to
utter when both jack and the Marine fell to the floor. With the
advantage of the Marine giving him the back, he threw a hard punch on
his neck and noted with satisfaction the Marines limbs relaxing. All
of the sudden he felt a sharp pain in the back. "Bollocks" was his
last thought before he went down.
Scampering to his feet after pushing the other marine off him Jack saw
Lynch had fallen to the floor, again. God, he didn't seem to be having
a good time in this fight. The marine was kicking Aidan square in the
back repeatedly. Clenching his fist he struck the man square in the jaw
with a back hand sending him flying into a table.
"My god, lets get out of here before station security bust our arses for
beating these punks down." Jack spoke looking to Aidan, who was actually
knocked out. "Wake up!!" Jack shouted slapping the mans face.
Aidan's vision was blurred as he looked up.
"I'll get ye for that, ye wanker" he muttered, shaking his head."
"Shut up and stand on your feet, Specialist" shouted Jack angrily.
Aidan shook his head once more to clear up his sight and stood up, his
whole body screaming for rest. "Got ye, Major." he replied and limped
towards the exit.
Moments later on the hallway, Aidan finally managed to get rid of the
dizziness. He glanced sideways at Major Walsh.
"By the way" he commented with a grin. "Glad to see that the promotion
didn't soft ye, Major" and added a low "ouch" holding his back.
"Clean yourself up Specialist, stay away from sickbay. Lt.Cmdr
Summers will ask far too many questions. If station security come to
me I'll deal with them, I really don't think they will though, those
clowns
on the station wont want this on their record, and Neither...Do I.
There's
enough shit on there to deny my promotion to Colonel" Jack spat and
made his way back to his quarters to get a bit of rest.
