Nick smiled to himself as he looked around the ship. THis was what he lived
for. Heading towards a possible situation with the ship and crew at stake.
It had been one of the reasons why he had originally applied for Security
duty aboard the Starbase Aurora. That and his belief that he would be able
to make a difference against the Borg which had stolen years of his life.
Of course he hadnt seen any action against the Borg but he had against
varying other forces ranging from the pre-warp civilisation in his first
mission to killer plants and finally these beings which he still didnt
understand. The Borg had encountered very little like it and nothing of this
magnitude.
He took three of the devices he had modified and juggled them idly as he
watched Bretam and then clipped one on his belt ((That was a handy idea...))
and put the other two back in the box he had replicated to hold them. He
would have to remember to tell someone to take this case of spare units with
them in case others broke down. They were not as reliable as Nick would have
liked.
To the left of him was th ehelmet belonging to the suit he had to wear so he
could repressurise the shuttle bay on the station. Apparently the Colonel's
earlier experiences had deterred him from every visiting an unpressurised
bay again.
Shame because Nick wasnt fond of these suits, it wouldnt be too bad if they
fit a little closer or were a better colour but at the moment they just
irritated him. He would have to redesign them when he got back to the
ship but for th emoment he was happy to picture the entire crew wandering
around in bright pink suits. Especially Bretam. In Nick's mind they would
all look like he and Rangi had after the gelpack incident.
He looked down at his hands where his exoskeleton was still visible on his
left hand. He had originally arranged with Rangi to have that removed and
finally be free of the Collecvtive but other things had gotten in the way.
He didnt care how useful it was he wanted it removed. He would have to make
an appointment when he got back.
His combadge chirped as he fitted his gloves.
+taps+ "Chimera to Lieutenant Quayle"
+taps+ "Lieutenant Quayle here. Go ahead Ensign," he said recognising the
young officer's voice.
+taps+ "You have an incoming message form Earth. It is marked as 'Priority
One Personal'"
+taps+ "Thankyou Ensign, route it to my quarters. It will have to wait."
+taps+ "Understood"
Nick understood why he had been informed, it was standard procedure for a
priority one communication but Nick wished he hadnt been informed, it would
occupy the rest of his mind until he got back. Worrying about what it
contained and what news could warrant a priority one message. Not to mention
who the hell would bother marking it personal and it was not to good idea to
have your mind on other things on a mission of this nature.
Nick looked as the shuttle drew ever closer to the station. "Oh goody I get
to put the helmet on," he said as everybody turned around and looked at him
like he had grown a second head. He assumed he hadnt as the one helmet
seemed to sufficiently cover him as he attached it and engaged the pressure
seal.
