Lt Commander Samantha Palmer Mission Specialist USS Chimera NCC 96899 = Samantha’s Room, SB Bragg The blonde Starfleet officer lay back and tried to relax in the oval-shaped bath that was the focal point of her en suite bathroom. The room itself was part of Lieutenant General Alan Greer’s suite on the SSF base. The General had insisted that she stay with him, and Samantha thought it would be polite to accept the invitation. After all, she was only staying on the base for a short while. The General, her late fiancé’s father, had gone out of his way to make her feel comfortable during her stay on the base. Though the General was a charitable soul, she sometimes considered his generosity to be slightly excessive. She suspected the reason for this was that he still felt guilty about what happened to Daniel, his son. Though he could not have foreseen the events that had led to his death, it was he who had assigned both Daniel and Samantha to the tragic mission. Samantha looked at the candle burning sadly on the edge of the bath. She had been angry for a long time at General Greer, blaming him for the destruction of the Hyperion, and the death of many officers... and especially the death of Daniel. But eventually she realised he had no way of knowing the turn-out of events. Daniel was gone, nothing could change that. Although Samantha had made peace with her fiancé’s death, seeing his father still unnerved her. Not because of the resentment she had felt towards him, but the uncanny resemblance between father and son. Each time she looked at the General, she was reminded of Daniel, and although she had made peace with his death, she could not erase the memories they shared, memories she were reminded of whenever she saw the General’s face. There was still clearly tension between them whenever they met face to face, and luckily Samantha had not run into him all that much during her stay at his suite. He was tending to a lot of Intelligence business, and Samantha had her own minor assignments to complete. His wife, a Federation diplomat, had been away on a diplomatic assignment for most of Samantha’s stay and had only returned two days before. In the morning, Samantha would report to the Chimera for duty and move into her quarters on the ship. She had decided to enjoy the luxuries of a bath one last time before returning to the standard Starfleet issue sonic shower. Her meeting with the Chimera’s CO had been less successful than she had anticipated. Although, by now she should know that whenever she mentioned the word “temporal”, people tended to get suspicious and defensive. Samantha also felt aware of General Bretam’s suspicions that he hadn’t been told everything. She could tell he wasn’t stupid. But that was Intelligence for you. Cloak and dagger was their lifestyle. = -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Version: 7.0.322 / Virus Database: 266.11.14 - Release Date: 2005/05/20
