*** CMO Office * USS Chimera *** Although it wasnt strictly necessary that the CMO see all new crew for their arrival medical check, Rangi preferred to have it so. It gave her a chance to familiarise herself not only with new faces but, ofcourse, with the new medical histories, and she felt it was valuable to incoming crew to meet the 2XO and also to get a glimpse of sickbay. She knew from experience that it wasnt a favoured place for many and that some people were plainly uneasy to be there. Very occasionally, she found there was an immediate need for treatment, however mild, as in the recent case of the new science officer Terek. She now sat updating histories, wrapped in her work, only vaguely aware of the background sounds of sickbay. Then something happened that broke her concentration. There was a scream followed swiftly by a crash of breaking crockery. Rangi snapped her attention towards the door, straightening up in her seat, a puzzled frown on her face. A few moments later,Lucy Fleming ran through the open door, gasped: "Rangi...come quick!" and ran out again. Rangi, wondering what emergency had occurred, sprang to her feet and hurried from her office into main sickbay. Sounds of raised voices drew her attention to the lab area but as she began move toward it,Lucy gestured wildly to her and pointed to the ceiling. The nurse was standing near the main surgical bed looking up at the sensor cluster. She gave Rangi a worried glance. "What...in the world...is that!" Rangi said slowly, coming to a standstill and gazing up apprehensively at a mustard yellow coloured stain that grew larger even as she looked at it. Droplets of liquid hung from the area, dripping onto the bed and nearby floor with the sound of pattering raindrops.A small pool had formed on the centre of the bed. "Where's it coming from?" Rangi asked, glancing round at the rest of the ceiling, fearing to see other patches forming. "I've no idea." Lucy replied. "But this isnt all...its in the replicator." "What?" Rangi asked in amazement. Lucy nodded. "Maikai was getting a drink...and...oh Rangi! you should have seen it." One look at the nurses face made Rangi think she was glad she hadnt. A larger drop splashed down into the puddle, spattering itself further onto the bed and the floor. The two women stepped back. "Have you called engineering?" Rangi asked, frowning at the mess. "Yes...they said they'd come as soon as someone was free." "As soon as someone was free?" Rangi repeated with a tone of disbelief. Lucy nodded. "They're very busy apparantly. I did tell them it was an emergency." "That's ridiculous" Rangi muttered and tapped her commbadge. "Summers to Engineering" she said, darting a glance towards the lab. + Henderson here.+ came the reply. "I need someone in sickbay...immediately." + Yes ma'am...but like I already explained we're really busy right now and..+ "I dont care how busy you are" Rangi retorted " When I say immediately I mean just that... now...this minute." + You've got a replicator problem right? + asked the voice, sounding faintly weary, as though replicators were a long way down on his list of importance. Rangi met Lucys eye and replied. "Yes...and I also have something dripping from the ceiling onto the main surgical bed." There was a two seconds pause. +What is it? + asked Henderson suspiciously. " I dont know!" Rangi responded indignantly "I'm not an engineer!!...but whatever it is, it needs stopping. I need someone up here ...immediately " + Yes ma'am ...I'll see what I can do + "Mr.Henderson?" + Yes ma'am? + " Do you understand 'immediately' ? If there's noone else, then come yourself." + Yes ma'am + The communication was ended. Rangi sighed and looked at the growing pool. "Lets get this cleaned up." she said, raising her head to look at the ceiling. "...and lets hope he gets here quickly." *** End Log *** LtCmdr Rangi Summers CMO/2XO USS Chimera & Nurse Lucy Fleming Engineer Henderson (npcs) Rangi
