=Sickbay= =U.S.S. Chimera= Ensign Rick Rodgers arrived in sickbay with his engineering kit in hand. “Did somebody call for an engineer?” Rick said to no one in particular. A nurse, who was standing near the door when Rick entered, looked up at the ensign. “In fact, we did,”’ she said. “A couple of times, actually. We have ... a problem.” “What kind of problem, exactly?” Rick asked. She looked like she was finding it hard to come up with the right words. “I’ll let Doctor Summers explain,” the nurse finally said. She looked around the room before spotting the Doctor. “Doctor Summers, an ensign from engineering is here about our little ... problem,” the nurse said. Rangi, looking slightly harrassed, turned to them. "Thankyou Lucy" she said. The nurse took the mop the CMO had been weilding. "Am I pleased to see 'you' " Rangi said with feeling."Thats the problem...and so is that....and that" she said, pointing to three areas of the ceiling She began to pick her way between a collection of bowls on the floor, all strategically placed to catch drips. "Thats the worst one..and was the first to appear." she said and looked at him as though expecting a solution. Technician Sally Schuman, squeezed her mop into a bucket and scowled at him horribly, obviously blaming 'him' for the job she had to do. Rick ignored the scowl as he pulled out a tricorder from his kit and scanned the ceiling where the ... main problem ... was. He looked over the data on the tricorder and shook his head in puzzlement. He performed another quick scan before he tapped his comm badge. +tap+ “Rodgers to engineering. I need some scrubbers in sickbay ASAP?” +tap+ “Acknowledged,” came the reply. Rick then looked at the Doctor. “As soon as the mess is cleaned up, I’ll have a team to fix any minor damage it may have cause,” Rick said. “I was told you were also having a problem with your replicators ...” "Yes we are" Rangi replied. She waited for Rick to turn off the tricorder before pointing towards the lab. "Its in lab one." Carefully stepping over a shallow bowl, Rangi picked her way clear of the drips and led the way across the sickbay. Sally gave the engineer a stare to freeze boiled water as he went passed. It didn't go without Rick's notice. "Its here." Rangi said standing aside for the engineer. "One of the AMOs asked for coffee and got far more than she expected." Rangi explained drily. Rick studied the replicatior in question, holding back his instant gag reflex at the smell. He tapped in a few commands and the substance that was remaining on the device disappeared. The odor, though, remained. He opened the side of the device and tapped in a couple more commands. As Rick waited for the replicator’s self-diagnostic to complete, he scanned it with his tricorder. Once the diagnostic was completed, he continued to be puzzled, but only for a moment. Once he realized the only way this could’ve happened, Rick did everything in his power to hold back a laugh slowly building inside of him, despite the odor that was still present. Just to make certain, he took apart the entire device, making certain there weren’t any malfunctioning parts. Everything was as it should’ve been. He once again fought back the urge to laugh, or even grin. The question is, who and why? That was none of his concern though. At the academy, Rick had pulled off a few pranks, but nothing like this. It wasn’t that he couldn’t have. It was just that he didn’t have the nerve. No. It was of no concern to him. His job was to report his findings to Lt. McTaggert. Nothing more. His superior officer would handle the rest. A part of Rick didn’t want to report his findings, because it was certain to get someone into trouble. He reassembled the device and looked over his data once more before turning to face Doctor Summers. “The replicator is working at established parameters,” Rick said. “But, if you’d like, I can have another one installed in its place.” Rangi eyed the ensign with a steady grey gaze. {Is he laughing about this?} she wondered, seeing a muscle twitch on his jaw. She knew that later there might be hunmour in the situation but was completely unable to see it herself at that moment. "I would prefer that..yes." she said coolly." Not that I distrust your work but this is after all a SICKbay" she stressed the word."...and I'd feel happier with a NEW means of getting a drink!" For one moment she thought he was really going to laugh and the effort he made to prevent it was so amusing in itself that Rangi turned away subdueing her own smile. Walking back to the door way said over her shoulder.. "Thankyou ensign." and turnedto look at him."I'll expect it installed quickly then." Rick nodded respectifully as he tapped his comm badge. +tap+ "Engineering, Rodgers again. Do we have any additional replicators on hand?" +tap+ "We have two available in storage," came the reply from engineering. +tap+ "Could you have one transported to my location?" Rodgers asked. +tap+ "We'll send one down in a few of minutes." Rick used that time to remove the replicator piece-by-piece. Once he was finished, he reassembled it on the deck. At that moment, another replicator appeared next to the old one. It took Rick another twenty minutes to install the new device. Once done, he tested it by ordering a coffee. As soon as the beverage appeared, he took the mug and slowly sniffed the contents. 'Never can be too careful,' Rick thought. When he realized it smelled like coffee, he took a cautious sip, closing his eyes. 'It tastes like coffee,' Rick thought. He replicated a few of more items, all of which appeared as they should. With that accomplished, he had the old replicator transported to a work station in engineering, where he would examine it a little further before either stripping it for parts, or give it a good cleaning and install it somewhere else on the ship. It was still in good condition, after all. Lt. Commander Rangi Summers Chief Medical Officer/2XO U.S.S. Chimera Ensign Rick Rodgers Assistant Engineering Officer U.S.S. Chimera
