Athena tried to hold on and keep her head up as the general carried her to
sickbay. She was feeling hot but beginning to shiver again and her head was
beginning to ache. In an effort to settle her stomach she closed her eyes and laid
her aching head on Keylor's shoulder.
A look of displeasure clouded Rangis face as she made her way back into the
main sickbay. Lucy Sally and another technician were clearing the floor of the
bowls used to catch the drips. sally rung out her mop in its bucket.
"Thankyou for your help Sally." Rangi said "That was an unpleasant job."
Sally nofdded agreement, hoisted her bucket and carried it away .
{Look at it!} Rangi thought {Just look...what a mess. 'Ready to Roll?} she
asked herself, quoting Scotts words { That was tempting fate wasn't it!!}
The main door slid open causing her to turn at the sound. She expected
another engineer at least and was surprised to see general Bretam stagger through
the doorway with a figure in his arms. Rangi walked quickly towards them.
"General?" she asked in surprise and then, recognising the scantily clad
woman he carried added "Athena?" She pointed to the biobed. "Put her
there...carefully."
Athena gave a soft moan when she was laid down on a cool biobed. She opened
her eyes and then squinted against the bright light. She heard the general say
something to someone. She closed her eyes against the light and concentrated
on taking slow even breaths as she tried to convince her body that it was fine.
The general explained the circumstances as far as he understood them to
Rangi who began a scan of the counselor.
"She's dehydrated and very weak ." Rangi said glancing up at the biosigns
displayed in the overbed screen. "Good job you found her when you did Sir."
Bretam nodded and said, "Keep me informed," before he left. Athena squinted
against the bright lights again as she tried to see who was there. Her hand
went to her temple to ease the pounding there. She shiver against the cool breeze
she felt travel over her skin as she rasped out, "Water, Please?"
"I'll get some...lay still Athena " rangi said quietly and hurried to the
replicator. She stood for a second or so looking at the machine, took a deep
breath and requested " A jug of cool water..with a glass." A moment later her
request was satisfied.
She lifted a small tray and looked at the contents. {It 'seems' ok} she
thought carrying it to the biobed.{Lets hope it is!}
She set the tray down and poured a glass of the crystal clear liquid which
she held up to the light, sniffed and satisfied all was well, said to Athena
"Here you are...water." She set the glass next to the jug and helped Athena sit
up. "There you are...dont drink it all at once."
Athena nodded and gave a soft wince because of her aching head and then
sipped some of the cool drink. It made a cold path that ran down her throat
briefly. She gently rubbed the drop that was running down her chin. As the water hit
her stomach a coolness spread throughout her body making her feel hot and she
laid back down.
Rangi administered a small cocktail of drugs, explaining to Athena what they
were and why she needed them. She knew that the counselor wasnt really
registering what she was being told.
As the coolness of the water in her system subsided she began to shiver
making her head ache all the more and she closed her eyes to hide the amount of
pain she was in. {If only my head would stop aching a little and then I could go
to sleep.
"This last one is a painkiller Athena." Rangi said, pressing the hypospray
against Athenas neck. "Its also a light sedative...you'll feel sleepy soon and
alot more comfortable. When you wake up you'll feel much better. Just relax."
Athena heard a soft hiss through the pounding in her head. It wasn't long
before the pain in her head eased and bit and she began to feel very sleep. She
felt strange though as if she were trying to breath while someone sat on her
chest. As she concentrated on her breathing red dots began to break out
everywhere that could be seen.
Rangi cleared the used phials away, set the hypospray back into its tray and
began to write up the treatment Athena had been given.Without warning a loud
'bleeping' alarm sounded and glancing quickly at the biosign display, Rangi saw
that the counselors blood pressure was rising rapidly.
Quickly grasping the hypospray again, Rangi clicked in another phial thinking
as she did so { She shouldnt have had a reaction to that....her sensitivity
must be on the line}
The harder she concentrated on her breathing the tight and tight her chest
seemed to become. She kept her eyes closed and struggled with the deep even
breathing she'd been keeping. A loud bleeping echoed through her still aching
head. She wanted to scream but only shut her eyes tighter and a tear rolled from
the corner of her eye down the side of her face. And then the weight on her
chest lightened; She took a calming breath and let her woozy thoughts go black.
Nurse Fleming, summoned by the alarm, hurried to the biobed."Its an allergic
reaction." Rangi said watching the high reading begin to fall.
"Again?" Lucy asked, remembering the last time the counselor had been in
sickbay.
"Yes." Rangi replied slowly and meeting the nurses worried expression added
"...and that's not good. This was a mild dose."
