<<Thanks to Finn for advice on Plasma Conduits >> *** Sickbay * USS Chimera *** "Mmmm..." murmured Rangi thoughtfully, pressing a clenched right hand fist into the palm of her left hand and tapping it there. She had been reading up on the sedative she had administered to Athena, surprised at the counselors reaction to the mild drug. {We're going to have trouble here} she told herself {If she's reacting to that so severely...it doesnt bode well........} Rangi had spent some time re-familiarising herself with the drugs in question and decided that when Athena awoke from the sleep she had fallen into, she would talk to her.She was puzzled by the fact that the counselors medical history showed she had had no adverse reaction to such medication until quite recently. Rangi wondered if somehow that was linked to Athenas increasing telepathic powers, though told herself it was an unlikely explanation. Closing the computer link on her desk she stood up and walked across the small office to the replicator where she began to order .. "A mug of hot chocolate...sweet and..." she stopped, frowning at the replicator, undecided whether to risk it or not. [Please complete the command] the computer voice said when a few seconds elapsed. "Never mind..I dont want anything" Rangi turned away and moved instead to the doorway. Sickbay had returned more or less to its former state except for two engineers completing repairs to the main surgical bed sensor array. Athena lay peacefully sleeping on her bed, Maikai in nearby attendance. Another bed was occupied by a third engineer, an ensign by the name of Paul Woodram who had had the misfortune to suffer severe plasma burns to his left arm and hand when a conduit on deck four overloaded. He and a fellow ensign from Bragg had been carrying out modifications and were totally unprepared for the power surge that caused the incident. The Bragg engineer had returned to the starbase for medical attention. Ensign Woodram had been in great pain and together Maikai, the new AMO Jamie Gansen and Rangi had treated him for shock and plasma burn. A report had been sent to the XO and CEO detailing the incident and carrying the information that the unfortunate man would be remaining in sickbay for at least fortyeight hours. Ensign Woodram had a long term girlfriend, who, hearing of the accident, had hotfooted it from astrometrics to sickbay to find out what had happened to her beloved. She sat beside the bed, holding his uninjured hand, a picture of worried concern. Rangi walked towards them. "He's going to be alright isnt he?" the girlfriend asked for the sixth time. "Yes." Rangi replied looking from one to the other, "..but he does need to rest." "Oh...you want me to leave?...I just wanted to see that he's ok..I can stay a bit longer can't I ?" came the quavering question. Ensign Woodram looked hopefully at Rangi, his paled face silently asking her to agree. "Ofcourse." Rangi replied quietly with a small smile of reassurance, understanding too well what the young woman was feeling. "Do you have any pain?" she asked the ensign. "No Ma'am..its not too bad..thankyou." he replied.His girlfriend squeezed the hand she held, her eyes filling with tears. "Tell the AMO if you need anything." Rangi said."She'll be here to check on you shortly." Woodram nodded and Rangi turned away, picking up the medpadd as she did so.After reading the recent additions, she replaced it at the end of the bio bed. and with another smile at the young woman moved away towards the exit. It had been a long afternoon. "I'm in my quarters if you need me." she told Maikai. "Let me know when the counselor wakes please. I'd like to talk to her."
