*** Deck 2 * USS Chimera *** Rangi stepped out of the turbolift and set off along the corridor towards her quarters, eager to shower and change for the evening. She wondered what time Shane would be off duty and mentally planned a meal for them though she half expected a call back to sickbay, having asked she be informed when the counselor woke. {A salad then..or something that will keep}she thought and reaching her door, raised her hand and began to tap in the access code. Her commbadge chirruped. She thought {So soon?} but froze in surprise as a voice said: "Quayle to Doctor Summers. I need to see you immediately in Sickbay." Turning on her heel, she hurried back the way she had come, wondering what was wrong. She knew that the former CEO was back aboard Chimera and had in fact sent a request he attend for routine medical the following day but something in his voice caused her to wish the lift was faster. Nick entered sickbay and walked straight to the CMO's office in search of Rangi, finding nothing there he set off in search of Medical Staff. Finding one rearranging a trolley near one of the biobeds he said urgently, "Where is Doctor Summers?" The young nurse was slightly unsettled by this man who had barged into sickbay and then demanded the location of the CMO, without so much as a "hello" she might add. "She just left I'm afraid, is there anything I can help you with?" she said moving a blonde strand of hair that had fallen in her face. Nick didnt give her a repsonse and turned to look at the door before tapping his combadge, "Quayle to Doctor Summers, what is your location?" Rangi left the turbolift on deck five and was walking briskly towards sickbay when her commbadge chirruped again. She tapped a reply, nearing the main entrance and concerned now at the urgency in his voice replied +Taps+ Deck 5 nearing sickbay" she said and ran through the door in time to see Nick turn around. "Whats the matter?" she asked as she hurried towards him. An expression of relief could be seen even on Nick's face and he rushed to meet Rangi as she entered, "You are most familiar with my systems, I need some assistance" he said urgently, "May we go into your office?" he said and stepped inside. "Of course." Rangi glanced at Nurse Fleming who shrugged in a 'don't ask me I have no idea' kind of way. The door closed behind them as Rangi followed Nick into her small office. What's happened?" she asked walking towards him. Nick raised his arm to show Rangi, which was now twitching of it's own accord, his fingers flexing like an electric current was passing through them, which was in fact not far from the truth. "It would appear I have suffered a" he paused for a moment to think of the right words, "Malfunction. According to my internal alarms there is a problem with the implant which regulates the technology in my arm, it is shunting fluctuating amounts of what I guess you would call energy to the implants causing them to activate and reactivate randomly." he smiled, "Not a pleasant or very secure experience." Rangi eyed the arm and pursed her lips as Nick appeared to clutch at thin air. She looked at him thoughtfully then moved to her chair beyond her desk. "Well...we have a choice." she said and took her seat carefully, raising her head to meet his gaze. "Don't look so worried." she said giving a small smile."We can do one of two things...either try to ...'fix'...the implants...or remove them altogether." She waited for his responce her expression not giving a clue that she thought either solution would be difficult. Nick frowned as the realisation that the implants may be removed sank in, "Well, I cant carry on as I am but I would need some time to think about having them removed, it is a big step and I'm not entirely sure I would want to. It does have its advantages." Nick smiled grimly, "At least I have proved some people wrong. I thought it was a different part of the male anatomy that could think independently of the rest." He frowned again, "What would you advise doctor?" "Sit down please." she said pointing vaguely to the chair opposite hers. She watched him pull the chair forward. "I have to be honest with you...removing the implants would be difficult...though not impossible" she added hastily, raising a hand."But repairing them would mean that you want to keep them. Forgive me, but you seem unsure that that's what you want?" "I am unsure" he said leaning forward over the desk and resting his arms on the desk, "I dont think you will want to hear every intricate detail but it suffices to say that I have grown attached to them." he continued on, "With these implants I am Borg, without them I'm not anybody, the Borg took my old identity away, Borg is the only one I have left." Rangi looked at him steadily for some seconds then gave a shake of her head. Her lips formed a glimmer of a smile and she reached across the desk. "You're not Borg." she said very quietly and patted her hand on his. Straightening up a little, she paused then, kindly but adopting a more professional tone said: "Then you're right to think about it. Perhaps talking to a counselor might help you?...but in the mean time.." she looked at his arm which gave a sudden shudder, "..we have to think what to do now...as a temporary measure." *** End Log *** LtCmdr Nick Quayle AEO USS Chimera & LtCmdr Rangi Summers CMO/2XO USS Chimera
