===== Bridge, USS Chimera ======
Hours passed since the Chimera arrived at the edge of the Spinward march and began its search for the missing ship ... the USS Gott. Shane half expected that science would find the Gott within a short time, afterall SSF had informations that she ship appeared in the march ... and they could only use some long range sensor stations ... but he was wrong this time. Since the orders were given to find the Gott, Science was quiet like a mouse in its hole.
Shane was half determined to ask Oriana about the status when a call from Astrometrics came in:
+TAPS+"Astrometrics to bridge..."
+TAPS+"Bridge here, go on..." Shane said a bit surpised to hear the voice of Ens. Terek instead of Lt. Oriana. But knowing the vulcan CSCiO a bit, he was surprised about NOTHING in the science department.
+TAPS+"Sir, we've managed to find course to the marsh. I'm transmiting it to you now...."
A little blinking flash on the chair-arm console confirmed the Ensign's words. They were receiving coordinates for navigation. But well, that was just one of the things Shane asked the Science to do ... and even more ... the less important one. Already a bit annoyed about the long idle time on the bridge he asked:
+TAPS+"Ensign. Have you managed to determine the location of the USS Gott?"
+TAPS+"Eh... no sir. Not yet, but we think that once we get more into the area, we'll get a more clear view of the marsh...."
That was not an answer Shane hoped for. A way through the march was a fine thing, buy without knowing the exact location of the USS Gott it was priceless. Terek's idea of getting deeper in the march was a good one as well, but since the march was 'famous' for the many anomalies ... both time ans space related, Shane (and Bretam as well) wanted to spend as little time in the march as possible. Flying blindly into the march was the last thing Shane was ready to accept.
+TAPS+"I'm not concerned about your excuses ensign, we are in time press. We need to know that location as soon as possible. Keep me noticed if you'll find 'anything'. Brigde out"
For a moment he asked himself if he was not to harsh towards the young ensign ... but on the other side he thought that working under pressure is a good school for Terek ... it was a state Shane found himself too often in.
A little time ago a weapon test simulation was finished in one of the holodecks. There were the flame technology used Terek and Lynch proposed some time ago. Shane took no part there, he had bride duty, but he was sure that the two of them with Major Walsh would come with something usuable against the 'Bugs'.
Thinking about a fight ... Shane remebered a mental note he did some time ago ... he wanted to contact sickbay. He turned towards LT. Foster that was manning OPS like usually and asked: "Do I remeber right that Cargobay 3 is not used at the moment?"
It took the LT. only three seconds to reply: "You are quite right sir. There are only several crates of spare engineering equipment stored in that cargo bay".
Shane noded glad that he remebered right. Still looking at the LT he added: "Lieutenant, please have the cargo bay cleared as soon as possible and contact Medical please. Tell them that I want an emergency medical area to be created in the Cargo bay Three. If we will find the Gott I dont expect the salvation of her to be without casualities. In oposite, i think it might happen that medical will be in need of more place then our sickbay offers." Shane shrugged slightly: "Better safe then sorry Lieutenant".
Foster noded and replied text book like: "Aye, aye sir"
Shane was not glad about the prospect of having more casualities on board then the place in the sickbay would allow to treat ... but it would not be for teh first time. He could think about at least three missions where an extendet place for treating injuries was needed. This task would have medical occupied and really ... later it could prrove itself to be an advangate to have that treatment area prepared.
For amoment Shane wondered if Commander Palmer could not know something specific about the location of the USS Gott, but then dismissed the thought. SSF was secretive and not always the best possible straight forward, but Shane could not imagine SSF sending one of their own ship blindly into a dangerous area like the march ... not when they woudl actually know where the Gott was.
Another idea was Athena and her telepatic powers. Athena was only half Betaziod and her mental powers were not that developed as by a "full" betaziod, but she was more then one time VERY helpfull in a dangerous situation. Maybe a talk with her could give Shane a clue about what to do next ... or at least he would learn about the crew feelings of the current mission.
Looking back at Foster one more time he said: "LT. please ask LT. Wellington to come to the bridge as soon as possible"
The Ops officer noded in agreement and tapped his console again.
