===== Bridge, USS Chimera =====
Bretam sighed a bit, then turned back to Shane. “Well we can’t sit here staring at this thing all day. The sooner we get going the sooner we can get it over with and get out of here.”
Shane nodded, “Aye sir.”
Keylor pointed to the screen. “See what Commander Palmer and Science can get on that anomaly. It might be interesting to those science types. Also keep a close eye on that ship, any reading you can get that will let us know if they detect us coming would be helpful.” He said plainly.
“Aye sir will do.” Shane replied simply.
Keylor then turned back to Andersen, “Lieutenant I believe we have shuttles to fly. Once you are done there, Meet me in the shuttle bay.” He said bluntly. Andersen nodded. Keylor then turned to the lift doors. Looking back at Shane he smiled, “Lets hope nothing else goes wrong and we can leave here quickly.”
Shane looked less than enthused and only nodded. He watched his CO turning around and leaving the bridge. Then he slowly returned to the centre of the bridge and sat himself in the CO's seat. The event of finding the Gott was a great thing ... finally they have reached the first 'Way point' of their mission. The fact that the Gott was virtually sitting on some space anomaly was not encouraging and it was still going worse. Shane didnt protest for the third time that Bretam should lead that away team, he did it twice and Bretam knew Shane's opinion very well ... but still he had a bad feeling as he watched Bretam to leave. Bretam's place was on bridge ... in a place that was safe ... but considering the latest events around the ship ... the bridge was the same unsafe place as a shuttle.
Sitting in the high chair again, he obeyed Bretam's order:
"Guzman to Lt. Oriana"
+TAPS+ Oriana here sir.
"Lieutenant" Shane started, "I believe that there is something of interest for you just above the ship ..." but he was interrupted
+TAPS+ A massive temporal anomaly sir, yes. Its fascinating!
It was for the very first time that Shane sensed something like a kid's interest in the voice of the CSCiO. Sure, Vulcans were not exactly known for their emotions ... but Oriana was more then a text book like example. The only time he experienced the vulcan woman to show emotions stronger then a friendly nod was when the crew was under the 'Rose pollen' effect.
"Exact Lieutenant" Shane replied with a smile on his lips," I would like you to take a close eye on that anomaly. Initial reports say that it is quite unstable. I dont like sitting on a barrel of gunpowder so please find out anything about the anomaly. When, why, how ... anything. Please coordinate your scans with Commander Palmer."
The voice of the vulcan science officer was motionsless once again when she responded:
+TAPS+ Understood Commander.
"Commander" Shane spoke now to Palmer. His voice was calm as usual but a carefull listener could notice a slight shade of untrust there ... ."please monitor the Gott and the shuttles as well. If there is anythign unusual, beeing it just a small ant shiffing, i want to know"
"Yes sir" was all he's got from the blonce Commander. If she was thinking anything else he couldnt know.
Shane then looked sideways at Ens. Dexter and asked: "Ensign, how's the status of our temporal shielding?"
Dexter looked a bit puzzled at Shane. It was less then 5 minutes since the General asked the same question... "Temporal shields at 52% and still rising, deflector output at 70%" he said. Shane noded but said: "Please tell Engineering to do all possible to reach full shields strenght as soon as possible". Dexter gave him an another strange look but noded: "Aye, sir".
Shane knew of course that Engineering will do their best even without special orders, but he felt VERY vulnerable without those shields at the moment. There was a ship and a crew to protect and one special person as well. Shane tapped the COMM button once again.
"Guzman to Sickbay"
To Shane's relief it was Rangi who responded.
+TAPS+ Summers here. How can I help you Commander?"
"What's the casualities status Doctor?"
+TAPS+ Just some minor bruises and one or two small plasma burns.
"Very well. The away team will leave the ship shortly. Please prepare for possible emergency transports and injuries. " he said short and plainly. He was very relieved that Rangi was all right, but he could not afford to show it. He had to care for the whole crew ... not just for a certain CMO.
+TAPS+ Understood. We'll do everything necessary.
Finishing his turn to give out orders he said to MCpt Harker: "Captain, please prepare an emergency exit course from here. Just in case we have to take off swifter then I could say "now"".
Harker noded in the same way as Palmer did and said: "Aye, sir". Shane didnt liked the way this man acted. It was not the exact way how a LT. in helm would usually act. Sometimes Shane's got the feeling that Harker was more used to sit on Shane's seat then on that of HELM.
Shane's thoughts were interrupted by Ens. Dexter as he reported: "Sir, the shuttles in the shuttlebay request launch permission."
Shane looked at Palmer who noded: "All, clear as far Commander".
Shane noded and said to Dexter: "Permission granted" {Much luck!} he thought.
