==Shulttle 1===
Gary monitored the shuttle systems as Lieutenant Foster piloted the
bucking bronco. Gary was much happier at being the Co-pilot o the
shuttle. On the last mission, when Major walsh had him piloting the
shuttle, Gary was way too tense; he was not the best pilot around. But
monitoring systems and following someone else's lead was more of his
forte.
As Foster did a good job of riding the gravitational forces that would
rip most objects apart, Gary kept his watchful eye on all of the ships
systems. Though the computer was doing its best to keep the inertial
dampers at optimum efficiency, even it was having a hard time keeping up
with the buffeting and bumping of the marsh. Nothing on the ship was
spared the brutality of their location, impulse and thrusters were
strained to their capacity and Gary was worried they would barely make
it to their destination, if at all.
Every few seconds Gary would look at the sensors , watching for any
pocket of debris, or worse a temporal pocket. Though he had heard that
the chimera had developed a method for detecting anomalies, no one had
taken the time to modify the shuttles for their short little flight, and
Gary had to rely on a stream of data form the chimera.
Some where between the chimera and the Gott a proximity alert sounded.
Gary quickly abandoned watching the ships systems to check it out. "What
is if Petty Officer?" Foster asked. Gary tapped on the sensor consol and
quickly assessed the problem. "Sir. Anomaly detected 5 degrees to port,
200 meters ahead." He barked out.
The ship quickly changed course as Foster tried to avoid contact with
the anomaly. The inertial dampers tried to keep up wioth the ever
demanding conditions, but even Gary could feel the inertia push him to
one side. "10 degrees, 150 meters. 15 degreed 100 meters." Gary chimed
in giving Foster the location of the anomaly. "25 degrees and 75 meters.
Sir? It is expanding." He called out.
"Push impulse to maximum, give it everything we got." Foster said. Gary
reached to his right and tapped feverishly to override the computers
control over impulse. "115 percent sir, that is all we have." He said.
"What about the other shuttles?" Foster asked. Gary looked back to his
sensors. "The appear to have changed course as well sir. We appear to be
the only ones in danger." He replied. "75 degrees and 15 meters sir! It
is almost like it is trying to catch us." He said for no apparent
reason. Suddenly the ship jerked hard to starboard. Gary gripped the
consol with both hands trying to stay in place to monitor the systems.
"How about now Petty officer?" Foster asked. "Gary squinted and looked
at the sensors. "Still growing sir, it is going to be close." He replied
back.
In the next few seconds the ship rattled under the strain of the
maneuvers and the tidal forces of the marsh. "Almost there!" Gary called
out almost cringing at the though of an impact. The ship suddenlty burst
out in to a full fledged violent fit. "What was that?" Foster called
out. "Gary looked at the sensors, "Sir the very edge of the anomaly
intersected with the port nacelle. We are now clear and moving away form
it." Gary replied.
"Any damage?" Foster asked.
Gary looked back to his systems console. "We are venting some plasma.
And the nacell looks like it is inoperable." He said tapping away and
pulling up a diagnostics. "Sir it looks like the nacelle has metal
fatigue." He said quizzically looking back to the lieutenant. Andersen
nodded, "Can we make it to the Gott?" he asked.
Gary looked back at his systems console. "Yes sir, impulse is still
operating." Gary answered. "good. Lets just get to the ship and get on
board. After we have accomplished the mission we can get one of the
engineering specialists to look at the shuttle." He commanded. Gary did
not reply but simply nodded and returned his attention to the sensors.
